Report: 21th february, Brussels-Belgium.
Anti Bush demonstration.
Our group, Comrade Akaki (20 years old, Student), Comrade Larini (21 years old), Comrade Shadan (19 years old), Comrade Juan (20 years old) and Comrade Nikoleta (19 years old), gathered at Akaki's house, at around 80km of Brussels, where the major demonstration were to be taken. We all prepared ourselves: most wore casual clothes that would be damaged. The boys didn't forget to bring their groin protector and military clothes so when all preparations were finished, we looked like something else than frustrated students. Comrad Akaki took his flag of the wall, and Comrade Larini and Juan had both a Red Star flag. After filling up a bag with water bottles and some biscuit and a bag with tomatoes, we jump in Larini's car, direction Brussels, direction BUSH!
An hour and a half later, at 14h15 approximatively, we arrived in Brussels, where the trafic is very dense. We park the car at Larini's parents house and we quickly go to the tram stop. Our banners are very high, and everyone is starring at us, which makes us all smile behind our scarves.
Finally the tram arrive, and we step in where we meet many demonstrators, mostly anarchists.
The tram stops us at around 1 km or where we wanted to go, so we had to walk. Walk, but not anymore as 5 people, but as a group of more than 15, and only our banners were floating!
When we saw the demonstrators, it was about 15 o clock, and we guessed there were more than 1000 people already. We said good bye to the friendly anarchists, who decided to stay at the back, and we made our way towards a big and long banner (the text was "USA, Keep your BUSHIT at home"), because we saw other red stars and hammer sicles flags. Most comrads we met didnt know or had a false view towards the NBP. Despite the noises, we explained what was the NBP, why it was the party that would change things, and why we chose it.
But it is only at half past 15 that the real demonstration begins, when police started to arrive, and when we were approching the european quarters where all the imperalists of NATO, including BUSH were hiding, certainly protected by 1000 policemen. Suddenly we are bloqued by massive police forces wielding shields and helmets. Everybody shouts and shouts but the policemen refuse to move. The whole croud is shouting, trompets are mumbling the melody of The Internationnale. We decided to take our tomatoes and we throw and throw them on the police men, who did nothing else than close their helmets and set their shields.
This intense face-to-face lasted more than 2 hours, which meant that by 18 o clock, there were much less people, as many demonstrators already gave up and went back home, but NBP was still there. Many people are getting very angry and bored, which is very bad news for the policemen, as boredom, mixed with anger, is source of revolutionnary movements, and the legitimate violence it might make. Having emptied our stocks of tomatoes, we throw them bottles of water, biers, stones, anything we could find. Our actions are quickly followed by many other people, while drummers and trumpets are making a strong "beat": all the rest of the weakened, but still strong, croud united under the slogans "Non a l'imperialisme americain, marre de ces busheries", which means in french "stop american imperialisme, enough of this butchery", having a word-game with "Bush" and "Boucherie". Things are getting pretty serious as more and more people are throwing stones and bottles at the policemen (but strangly enough, no molotov coktails), and the policemen are starting to get angry too, but they don't move.
We understoud soon after, when we saw big water throwers coming into action, making everyone retreat for a few meters. All in the "frontline" have been seriously pushed and wet by water, including most of our small but motivated group, which made us really feel that it was still cold, a feeling we had all lost due to enthousiasm.
The threat of the water thrower permitted the police forces to come into action, to try encircle us, and we understoud then that they wanted us to go the parc of the Cinquantenaire, gradually. All the demonstrators knew that we would all be stuck there, and thus we resisted as much as we could, but cold and strong water is a very good demotivator. The robocops were coming from everywhere, and despite our strong will, they finaly succeeded encercling us...
The police forces managed, without ease certainly, to devide the remaining protesters, and after having us kept "prisoners" for 2 hours, they let us go, small groups by small groups.
Many were arrested by the oppresive police, but there was no arrestations among us.
This was the first demonstration of NBP-Belgium, which occured the 21th of february. Next time, action?
