Действительно, при советской власти название иностранного фильма в нашем прокате часто меняли по идеологическим соображениям или для придания ему большей "кассовой" привлекательности, а сегодня перевод фильма отличается от оригинала исключительно благодаря негодным переводчикам. Так что, конечно, не "Убить Картера", а "Взять Картера" (в смысле "We got him").

Ну, to get something - получить, достать, догнать (в прямом и переносном смыслах) что-то, а to get somebody - убить кого-то.
