The country's leading elite school landed in "stormy weather" when DN discovered that a group of schoolchildren recorded a nazi film during a trip to the extermination camp Auschwitz.

After that the school rector and the pupils have worked so this is not happen again. Now they want to have help from the state and right to turn off pupils who violate the basic values.

It is early June 2017 and pupils at the Fredrikshovs castle school will soon go on holydays. The celebration will take place inside the Oscars church that is located very close to the school on Östermalm [district and island] in Stockholm. Celebrities, financiers and a former prime minister will sit on the bench rows.

The Fredrikshovs castle school is Sweden's most demanded primary school with 9000 children in the queue. It is a school that is said to foster future leaders; those who go out now have some of the country's best grades. But the summer holidays are soiled already before it has time to start. In the morning DN published an article "Pupils of elite school recorded a nazi film on the trip to Auschwitz".

Parents and pupils who prepare to the school ending can read about boys in the 9th class filmed when they staged a nazi meeting, imitated Adolf Hitler and hailed.

Pupil's teacher in civics D. Hultqvist said that the movie came as a shock. It was him who arranged the trip for 9-graders and follows them to Auschwitz every year.

- We have been down there in Poland, spoken a lot about the Holocaust, listened about the survivor’s fates and had a lecturer whose relatives suffered. When this happened i felt just "No." It was a feeling of dejection. What can I do more for the message to reach?

When DN visited the school 9 months after the publication, a poster hangs in the school's stairway. On one picture there is a photo of all the personnel, another informs on mobile phone ban, the third just reads "Gay is Okay" next to the rhyme not to offend others: "Go against the jargon and stand for what is right - even if in the friend's eye it does not always feels so "bold".

A lot has happened in the school since the pupil's film became public, according to the rector M. Möller Grimakova. She reported the event to the police and at the same began an internal work to find out what has gone wrong.

The police investigation has been ceased but school's work has continued. D. Hultqvist and several of his colleagues has been further educated in questions of extremism, radicalization and group pressure.

- We must know what we shall do so that the pupils never land there ideologically, but also that they shall not become passive observers, said the rector.

When the film became public, several parents informed that there have been problems in the group of pupils since earlier. A parent whom DN has spoken believes that the school has been negligent in the question.

- I am very disappointed over how the school and the school's foundation handled this. It should not have been a surprise but concerned a group of boys who since earlier painted nazi cross on the lockers and expressed unbelievably rude after having seen films about Holocaust.

The rector denies that the school would turn a blind eye to the warning signs from the pupils.

- I am quite sure that our pupils will become people who lead the society. It is even more important that they have good values, so we take it in the smallest signs.

The rector says that her school actually does not differ from any other, that extremist values are a problem for the whole society. On the other hand, she believes that these values are especially difficult to discover among the schoolchildren.

- Our pupils answer correctly on all questions, they hold to the democratic values and never mention an opinion that would get us alerted. It makes it very difficult to get under the surface.

To understand what happened in the boy group who recorded the movie she invited them half a year after they have finished the school, to speak through what happened. Several of them were interested. Together with their former teacher they discussed group pressure and civil courage.

- The pupils who actually have the negative values, we do not get at them in the whole. It is them who stand around and look we should work with. It is about limiting the harm, says D. Hultqvist.

One of the big lessons for the school's personnel has been the meaning to break groups. The 9-graders in the Fredrikshovs castle school has gone together for 10 years and the roles in the class are often established.

- As soon as we mix the groups, it becomes easier for the pupils to speak out. Suddenly those who usually make up the group's core are no longer as secure, says the rector.

Several pupils who took part in the film said afterwards that it clear consequences must exist for those who behaved ill. Both the rector and the teacher request more support from the authorities for handling questions on extremism in the class room. The rector wants to have larger possibilities to turn off pupils with extremist values who have negative effect on the group.

- Nowadays I can turn off the pupil for 1 week, if I have tried all other measures. After a week I get back an angry pupil with extremist opinions. It is toothless.

Personnel at the Fredrikshovs and the sister school Campus Manilla take part now in several education efforts they have applied to themselves. But the rector wants to see the nation-wide efforts with clear directives and aimed resources.

- Schools are expected to cope with this, but we give them neither enough knowledge nor resources. I am convinced that if we get right tools it will lead to changes in both schools and the society, says the rector.
