The study of ecology in Slow Death Funnies number one was published forty five years ago. Then Leonard Rifas started a great line of eco-comics called educomics, then Larry Gonick began his cartoon history of the universe that led to cartoon guides to statistic, physics, etc. All the titles mentioned have been used in college (Stanford,Harvard,etc) and highschool courses, and like art spiegelman's Maus, have won wide recognition and acclaim and now we get a classic "We are Columbia and Microsoft, we know who started the world" rant. ugh.

the man who printed the first Zap comic with Don Donahue in 1967 at 2180 Bryant st. SF where Last Gasp moved to in late 74: Charley Plymel, one of the early Beat Poets, thus bridging the gap between the Beat movement and the underground comix movement. There should be a plaque denoting the historic significance. Psychedelic poster writing also began there as Frank Westlake's Bindweed Press printed the early rock posters and the artists got into his collection of 16th century wooden Dutch type, while taking acid and playing his organ.
