Итальянская пресса взорвалась публикациями о том, что неизвестный вандал написал у входа в храм оскорбления, угрозы и проклятия в адрес папы римского Бенедикта XVI. А газета Il Messagero сообщила, что надписи сделаны на неизвестном языке. От имени столичных жителей свою солидарность выразил понтифику мэр Рима Джанни Алеманно. Кардинал Агостино Валлини, папский викарий Рима, заклеймил оскорбительные нападки на римского первосвященника.
