Those are exactly the things that make me think twice before choosing Singapore a home for myself and my family. The definition of crime here is not based on any principles of freedom, or even traditions or religion. It is simple: if the government thinks it's a crime then it's a crime. Thus anything can be declared a crime: murder, stealing, suicide, smoking pot, sniffing glue, watching porn, blowjob. This is dangerous, since the whole living experience here ultimately depends on how good the government is. It may be good enough now, but who can guarantee this won't change in the nearest future?

Sniffing glue isn't a crime mostly everywhere in the developed world, however, smoking pot has been banned in many countries. I don't think it's right, but at least, first, this is sort-of-justified based on traditions and second, the public opinion there is slowly shifting from traditions towards reason.
