but it's natural for a cat to hunt!
Buying an animal, feeding it canned food, and letting it roam free in an ecosystem isn't natural. Cats are one of the world's most damaging invasive species. There isn't anything natural about human-bred, human-introduced invasive species killing native wildlife that doesn't stand a chance. And since it's natural, I hope you do not cry when your cat gets killed by a coyote because it is natural for a coyote to hunt
But other animals hunt! They're bad too
Cats were bred to kill rats on ships. As it follows, they kill A LOT at a time. An owl or hawk will kill one bird, usually the weakest of the flock, and consume it. Furthermore, that owl or hawk is native and contributes to biodiversity. A cat will kill a bird and leave it to die a slow death. Birds typically don't die from the wound - they die from the bacteria in cat's saliva. Birds brought into wildlife rehab centers die over 90% of the time if they have been attacked by a cat, even if the wound isn't that bad. Their deaths are pointless. At least a hawk or falcon gets to feed.
But it's cruel to keep cats inside!
So what about dogs? What about parakeets and parrots (sidenote: fuck people that breed birds inside)?People keep them inside or tethered up for the majority of their lives. Moreover, if you actually care about your cat, you'll learn of ways to keep it entertained inside. My Cat from Hell has many techniques for doing this. You can even build an outdoor "catio".
Yeah but I'm an asshole who doesn't care about biodiversity or unnecessary animal suffering
Then at the very least equip it with a collar from (реклама) something similar. Give birds a chance.
I'm a vegan and believe all animals deserve their place in the world!
No one said kill cats. Just keep them inside and stop breeding them. There's close to 200 million cats in the USA alone.
What about TNR programs?
They don't work
Anything else I should know?
It's actually against the law in many counties for someone's pet to enter your yard. Check your local laws. Yes, I know, law enforcement won't respond to a call about a cat trespassing. But what if someone gets sick from a cat or their personal property is damaged by a cat?
Sick from a cat?? Lol
Toxoplasma gondii is a parasite that only completes its life cycle in cat feces. Nowhere else. Many humans have become infected by the parasite (remember, 200 million cats in the US alone) and a lot of wildlife is suffering from this parasite as well. The parasites are ubiquitous enough in the environment to the point where they can kill pigs, cows, dolphins, seals, and even whales.
