Завещание некоего Селивестра, в котором он среди прочего описывает "бумажник и корову", которые перевели как "ватный тюфяк и корову". На мой взгляд, в этом случае интересно не само слово "БꙋМАЖNНКО" на новгородской берестяной грамоте 700 летней давности (логичнее было бы употребить "берестяник"), а то как это слово перевели на современный русский язык академики Янин, Зализняк и ко: "ватный тюфяк".
The will of Selivestr on the birch bark manuscript, in which he describes, among other things, "bumazhnik i korowu" (a wallet and a cow), which is translated as "vatniy tufyak i korowu" (a cotton lump and a cow). In my opinion, in this case it is not the word "БꙋМАЖNНКО" (according to slavic word formation, the word "bumazhnik", wallet, comes from the word "bumaga", paper) itself that is interesting on a 700-year-old Novgorod birch bark manuscript, but how this word was translated into modern Russian by academicians Janin, Zaliznyak and Co: "vatniy tufyak" (see "Vatnik").
Частота упоминания слова "бумага" наглядно демонстрирует вероятность использования однокоренных слов в Новгороде 700 лет назад. Около 250 лет естественного распределения упоминаний и пара пиков за столетие до этого (чаще всего характерных для фальсификаций).
The frequency of mentioning the word "bumaga" (paper) clearly demonstrates the likelihood of using the same root words in Novgorod 700 years ago. About 250 years of natural distribution of references and a couple of peaks a century earlier (most often characteristic of falsifications).
Примечательно, что в академической и популярной литературе в последние десятилетия часто встречаются утверждения о том, что якобы, слово "бумажник" появилось раньше, а слово "бумага" позже, хотя это и нарушает логику словообразования. При этом оцифрованные данные корпорации Google демонстрируют, что слово "бумажник" в записях стали употреблять только спустя полвека после входа в оборот слова "бумага", что, на мой взгляд, весьма логично и естественно.
It is noteworthy that in academic and popular literature in recent decades there have been frequent allegations that the word "bumazhnik" appeared earlier and the word "bumaga" later, although this violates the logic of word formation. At the same time, digitized data from Google demonstrates that the word "bumazhnik" in records began to be used only half a century after the word "bumaga" entered circulation, which, in my opinion, is quite logical and natural.
Судя по всему, статьи о большей древности слова "бумажник" по сравнению с "бумага", начали появляться как раз после этой неудачной описки в уже выкопанной берестяной грамоте. Ну а академический перевод самого берестяного слова "бумажник" - "ватный тюфяк" - сделали уже с расчётом целевой аудитории берестяных грамот.
Впервые услышал об этой берестяной грамоте от Гарри Каспарова, бывшего чемпиона мира по шахматам, в его интервью почти что 20 летней давности.
Apparently, articles about the older word "wallet" compared to "paper" began to appear just after this unsuccessful description in the already dug up birch bark writing. Well, the academic translation of the birch word "bumazhnik" - "vatniy tufyak" - was done with the calculation of the target audience of birch manuscripts.
