James Victor Chesnutt GROSS: And each time when you came through, when as you put it, death didn't take, were you relieved or sorry?
Mr. CHESNUTT: Well, you know, it's more complex. You can't... I couldn't say either. I mean, you know, sometimes I'd be angry.
GROSS: Angry that...
Mr. CHESNUTT: Angry that they revived me, you know? I'd be like, how dare you? You know, how dare you people interfere in my, you know, what is obviously my life, my wish? But you know, of course, as the hours and days wear on, you realize well, there is joy to be had. I mean, this is how I - I'm sure everybody's different, you know, just how I, how it struck me. You know, when the days would wear on, you know, I would start to, you know, see some joy again in the world and be like whew, I eked - I squeaked that one out.https://youtu.be/SfsT671jmFAhttps://youtu.be/QI_wIZdy4RsAt The Cut Current Mood: sadCurrent Music: Vic Chesnutt - At The Cut | 1:56 am |

Poetry and pretence: the phoney Native American who fooled Bloomsbury set Sassoon, the famous war poet, spent time in the same psychiatric hospital, Lennel House in Coldstream, Scotland, and promptly fell in love with Prewett. “He was extremely handsome, with these hot brown eyes … he looked like the Italian movie star Rudolph Valentino, and was also a talented poet,” says Porter.
Previously unpublished letters between Prewett and Sassoon, which hint at their sexual relationship and Sassoon’s passionate pursuit of Prewett, are analysed for the first time in the book, which is coming out in July next year. Other letters, from Woolf, war poet Robert Graves and the aristocrat Lady Ottoline Morrell, demonstrate how the British literary elite fetishised Prewett’s “primitive soul”.
After being taken to Garsington Manor, Morrell’s Oxfordshire home, by Sassoon and introduced to some of the Bloomsbury set, Prewett began “playing Native American” in earnest in 1919.
“He appeals to the primitivist ideas of everyone around him. He goes around topless on a horse, looking gorgeous and fulfilling all their fantasies of being a native indigenous person – and using that to get his poems published by Virginia Woolf. And he gets Sassoon and the Morrells to pay for him to go to Oxford to get a degree,” says Porter.
At the time, few members of the British upper classes had ever seen a Native American in the flesh. “He’s meeting the needs of the British elite, who were very into primitives of all sorts. And they believed in beauty, and he was gorgeous,” she adds.Hearing the whine and crash We hastened out And found a few poor men Lying about.
I put my hand in the breast Of the first met. His heart thumped, stopped, and I drew My hand out wet.
Another, he seemed a boy, Rolled in the mud Screaming, "my legs, my legs," And he poured out his blood.
We bandaged the rest And went in, And started again at our cards Where we had been. Current Mood: sleepy | Saturday, May 30th, 2020 | 7:46 pm |
The Greatest Mathematician You’ve Never Heard Of Langlands spent every morning, seven days a week, for five years working on the paper he delivered in Oslo. It is written entirely in Russian and dedicated in large part to reformulating the geometric program championed by Frenkel. This new paper is an attempt to shift the field toward a more traditional approach: it proposes a new mathematical basis for the geometric theory that relates more closely to Langlands’s own conjectures by using similar tools to the ones he used in the ’60s—in the process, restoring his work back to its original arithmetic purity.
Before giving his talk, Langlands sent portions of the paper to various mathematicians familiar with his research. Several months later, he hasn’t heard back from anyone who’s been able to understand it in its entirety.
“If he wants more people to pay attention to it,” says James Arthur, a mathematician at the University of Toronto, “why on earth would he write it in Russian?” Some people have theorized that it was targeted at Frenkel, though Langlands insists that’s not the case—he’s always wanted to write something in Russian, he says, and his retirement had finally furnished him with the opportunity to do so.

Other rappers killed in recent months include Tyronne Noseworthy, 19, aka Fourty4Double0, who had worked with Houdini; Farah Hersi Handule, 23, aka 22 Filthy; Jahquar Stewart, 24, aka Bvlly, who had also worked with Houdini; and Keeshawn Brown, 18, aka Why-S, who had collaborated with Fourty4Double0.
