Master MZ .

Also Known As
Master MZ; Monogrammist MZ; Matthäus Zasinger (?); Matthäus Zaisinger (?); Matheus Zinck (?)

Biography
German engraver, who signed his prints with the initials MZ. The identification of the Monogrammist MZ with the Munich goldsmith Matthäus Zasinger, or Zaisinger (fl. 1498–1555), was first mentioned in the XVIIc and had been a matter of debate since. Due to similarity of style between works by the Master MZ and MS (fl. 1521), it has been suggested that the works are by the same hand. None of these or other proposed identities is yet persuasive.
