Миф об Амуре(Купидоне) и Психее по Апулею:
В мифе говорится, что у одного царя были три красавицы дочери, из которых красивее всех была младшая — Психея. Слава о её красоте прошла по всей земле и многие приезжали в город, где жила Психея, чтобы полюбоваться ею. Ей стали даже воздавать божеские почести, забыв Афродиту Олимпийскую. Последняя оскорбилась и решила погубить соперницу.

В древней Греции аналогом Купидона был юный сын богини Афродиты Эрос. Один из мифов рассказывает нежную и трогательную историю любви Купидона и Психеи. Матери Купидона Венере пришлась не по душе неземная красота земной девушки. И Венера приказала сыну наказать смертную, но вместо этого Купидон влюбился в Психею и сделал ее своей женой. Но так как людям нельзя смотреть на богов, Психея не знала, как выглядит ее муж.

Купидон разозлился за непослушание на Психею и наказал ее: он покинул девушку, а вместе с ним исчезли прекрасный замок, в котором они жили, и чудесные волшебные сады. Психея осталась в одиночестве и очень страдала без любимого. Чтобы разыскать своего возлюбленного, она отправилась в храм Венеры и обратилась за помощью к матери Купидона. А не любившая Психею Венера решила воспользоваться случаем и погубить девушку. Обещая в награду рассказать, где отыскать Купидона, Венера давала Психеи невыполнимые задания, одно сложнее другого. Ради Любимого Купидона Психея была готова на все.

Завистливые сестры, узнав об её благополучии, решили извести её и хитростью достигли того, что Психея нарушила данное супругу обещание — не допытываться, кто он. Злые сестры нашептали ей, что незримый супруг — дракон, который в один прекрасный день съест её с её плодом (Психея была уже беременна), и убедили её, чтобы она, вооружившись мечом и светильником, подстерегла его во время сна и убила.
Доверчивая Психея послушалась, и, зажегши светильник, стала рассматривать своего супруга, который оказался прекрасным Эротом; в то время, как она, пораженная красотой его лица, любовалась спящим, со светильника упала горячая капля масла на плечо бога и он от боли проснулся. Оскорблённый вероломством и легкомыслием супруги, он улетел от неё, а она, покинутая, пошла по земле искать своего возлюбленного. Долго Психея ходила по всем землям, пока не была вынуждена преклониться перед своей соперницей, Венерой, которая долго искала случая отомстить Психее ,в это время больной от ожога Эрот лежал у своей матери.

Так, Психея должна была разобрать по зернам и по родам громадную кучу смешанного зерна, достать золотое руно с бешеных овец, добыть воды из Стикса и принести из подземного царства от Персефоны (Прозерпины) ящик с чудесными притираниями.
Последним заданием для Психеи было доставить Ящик Пандоры (в котором находилась красота жены Плутона) в преисподнюю. Во время путешествия Психея не раз была на краю гибели, но ни при каких условиях она не должна была открывать Ящик Пандоры. Но любопытство победило осторожность, и Психея открыла его. А вместо положенной красоты, хитрая Венера упрятала в Ящик Пандоры мертвый сон, который и сразил Психею, наказав за любопытство.
Купидон нашел свою возлюбленную безжизненной на земле. Он простил ее и снял с нее мертвый сон. А боги, восхищенные силой любви Психеи, сделали Психею богиней.
