The Line Between a Game and a Simulation
A game turns into a simulation when you start using real life statistical data.
It is that easy.
If your MtG cards distribution mimics real events, you get a simulation.
Everything else, including details, is irrelevant.
You can have a single variable simulation of some process,
like the water filling a basin.
So a game like Dwarf Fortress, despite its depth,
remains just a game because its systems are invented rather than modeled from reality.
