You have to have something irrational at the foundational level in order to prevent "rational" and self-destructive hedonistic dissolution into one culture without regional competition, levels of isolation, etc. If "fairy tales" help prevent that, then "fairy tales" it is. Because nothing is more scary than the planetary monoculture.
