As a 14-years long user of various *NIX OSes, I can argue that a lot of the old stuff has already been fixed by the more recent developments in the realm of OpenBSD/FreeBSD development. Even GNU/Linux has the system now-a-days.

The UNIX architecture is convenient not only to the system administrators, but to everyone who processes data through multiple programs, because it allows for quick and easy data flow management as compared to the other options.

But I agree that the old Mac interfaces (System 1 - System 9) and especially the RISC OS were the pioneers of the intuitive GUIs on mainstream computers and that they are still really smooth and convenient to this day.

i see you're traumatazed by LFS much, understandable.

biggest problem with linux is that most improvements emerges from "i'm sick of this shit, i'll write my own, no matter how poor and hackish it would be" motivation. that often works, at least in 99% of cases, but it's impossible to fix fundamental problems with this approach. hence linux to this day has no OOM, and no hackish replacement for it.
