I don't have a dictionary definition in front of me, but I think that the Russian suffix "-vets" means an agent or a member of an organization. An "OONovets" is an agent of the United Nations, whether a soldier on a peacekeeping mission or a representative of a civilian agency within the UN. An "OMONovets" is a policeman serving in one of the OMON units. Therefore, "NATOvets" is an agent or a representative of NATO. Since NATO is a military organization, the word "NATOvets" refers to a soldier serving in the military one of the NATO member countries on a NATO-related mission.
