Okay, I'll put my answer at the root of the comments.
It's actually morre complicated here and even relate not only Tarkovsky's movie "Stalker", but rather Tarkovsky's movie "Sacrifice". The main character saves the world by performing a magical act (had sex with a witch), saved the world, but then sacrificd evrything he had. There's a big philosophical question here: is it worth believing what we can't explain? After all, everything can be explained by a banal psychosis, including an "alien gnome" ("There's nothing gnome! I have psychosis!" Someone can say.) But this way you can miss a real miracle! After all, an "alien gnome" can really exist and he can award supernatural abilities (telekenesis, telepathy) that can help in the fight against the occultist Putin. That is, the question is that if you really believe and accept a miracle (and not explain everything for psychosis and optical effects) -- a miracle can happen. But other hand it's risky to go down of the world of fake illusions (if it's not a real miracale) tough deal! say by the truth...
