| Sacral meaning of Digimon anime |

Here is yet another post about stuff I don't understand. When I was 8 years old I watched the final episodes of the 3rd season of Digimon Anime (a.k.a Digimon Tamers). It was in superior Spanish dub which I didn't understand due to the lack of Spanish skill. Yet it cast an immense impression upon my young fragile psyche.
In the digimon series the cast of children are set on the quest in the virtual reality, there each kid is paired with their own digital monster. Other digital monsters also form the population of the virtual world. Many people think that the concept of Digimon are just a pale copy of Pokemon, but I don't agree with this. Digimon speak in human language, the overall design is way more provocative and the story can have dramatic arcs related to the real world and, for example, such topics as death and divorce. Thus, In my opinion, Digimon series appeal to older children.
The third season is special, for example, because it introduced the furry sex icon, Renamon.

It also focuses in the tighter cast of characters, which allows deeper drama and character development.
However, What impressed me the most, was the final, where tamers have to coalesce with their digimons to transform them to their apex forms. During this process the tamers were portrayed naked with genitals not-drawn. Then, it felt spectacular but also extremely perverted in some weird new way. (From now on the essay must be read in Slavoj Zizek's voice.)
Recently, I was struck by insight about what Digimon actually was about and why digimons themselves have such strong sex appeal. In contrast with the Pokemon, which as a concept is based upon the Goethian demonology, in Digimon each tamer has only one monster. The tamer develops close intimate relation with their monster. However, I don't think that monster here encodes the sexual partner of the tamer. In my opinion, the digimon represents the budding sexuality of the tamer themselves. As in the final in the virtual world the tamer is fully immersed in th body of the digimon, this must symbolize that in the real world the digimon's rightful place is inside the tamer. However, for the most part of the show tamers exist in the exterior of their digimons. This suggests that the character's sexuality is not at its final position, which is normal, as they are prepubescent kids and, hence, they are detached from their developing sexuality.
The evolutions of digimon give additional food for thought. It seems that change of the digimon represent the changes of child's sexuality in the process of polymorphic perversion.

Whence, in the process of evolutions the sexuality of the child develops to the more robust adult form.
But I must confess that unlike pokemon the digimon evolves only for a limited segment of time during battle. This suggests that the child's sexuality must be in the natural form belonging to their age, but can flash-forward to a more developed stage in the process of polymorphic perversion. Moreover, different digimons can coalesce together to form new digimon and this probably represents state of adolescent sexual experimentation of a young pair.
The same concept is entirely disenchanted in the western animation feature "Big Mouth". Talking about pubescence made this show a target of the attacks as a "child porn". This fully explains why creators of the Digimon used metaphor as a way of telling their narrative. There is another anime with lots of similarities with Digimon. This show is 'JoJo's Bizzare Adventure'. But in this anime the centre of attention is queer attractions of adult men. I suggest that the "stances" of the characters may represent the unusual queer sexualities of the characters, and battles encode homosexual acts. But this is another story.
In my opinion, the fact that the digiworld is so charged with underlying hidden Freydean sexual content explains its popularity in furry fandom. Here furry fandom acts as platform which enables realization of childhood sexual fantasie, basis of which, however, already exist in the original media. Thus, in my opinion, adult furries are not guilty for their perverted interpretation on children's media. This, over all, is the main point of this essay. |
