Dear Brad,
With all due respect, I would like to tell you that many lj-users who can read and write Russian express their concerns about the fact that part of LJ services will go under "supervision" of Russian company, and, as many assume, Russian successor of KGB.
Reasons: security, privacy.
Anton Nossik, dolboeb, a “speaker” for SUP-Fabrik, writes in his blog about it, but his answers are very vague and do not actually answer the main question:
Is this transition under Russian service going to be voluntary for users or by default all Russian-speaking/writing users will be faced with new Russian start-up?
I do not know Anton Nossik personally and it is not a personal issue. I live in NY. If I would like to have Russian-based blog - I would probably get one to begin with. I liked your service based in US and I would like my blog remain in the country I live (including all control, access, and service issues).
As I 've mentioned, Anton Nossik does not answer these questions in his blog for whatever reasons. I completely support his ideas in terms of offering Russian-oriented service. But only for those who wish to subscribe. I do not want to be a part of anything by default based solely on the fact that I can write in Russian. Sounds like profiling to me.
At least, this is exactly how it reads for now.
I write to you in good faith that your baby, livejournal, will continue to be blogger-oriented, and the agreement you make addresses this issue.
