Nico continued to record, releasing over a dozen albums in those two decades. She also battled an addiction to heroin for nearly 20 years. In the late 80’s she stopped using heroin and began to adopt a more active lifestyle. This new life ironically led to her tragic death: on July 18th, 1988, at the age of 49, Nico died in a hospital in Ibiza - the result of a brain hemorrhage after being found lying unconscious by the side of her bicycle.
