attacked with a bulldozer
Совсем недавно узнал (позор, что раньше не знал!), что первыми, кто политизировал "проблему иммигрантов" во Франции, были коммунисты -
Toward the late 1970s, Communist mayors took drastic measures to reduce the number of immigrants in their localities by refusing them housing and benefits. In the early 1980s, [...] the national leadership [...] fully embraced the cause of its local branches. The party called for the repatriation of immigrants and rejected proposals to grant them voting rights for local elections. The leader of the party, George Marchais, went a step further, associating immigration with unemployment. The event that came to symbolize the Communist stance on immigration was the protest march led by a Communist mayor against an immigrant dormitory in Vitry. In December 1980, the dormitory was attacked with a bulldozer, its water and electricity supplies were cut off, and its immigrant residents were asked to leave the city. [...] During the last phases of the presidential campaign, the local branches of the Communist party linked immigrants with crime and drugs. The Communist mayor of Montigny led a demonstration against a Moroccan family, erroneously accusing it of drug trafficking.
