On filibusters Just posted this as a comment on Daily Mull I don't understand what the big deal about the filibuster is. Why suddenly to pass a law you need not 51, but 60 votes in the Senate? Let them filibuster! The longest filibuster in history - talking for 24 hours and 18 minutes - was by Sen. Strom Thurmond, who was opposing the Civil Rights Act of 1957. Guess what?
