Map of the World from 1493 | This is a map from the https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuremberg_Chronicle or Schedelsche Weltchronik, the title it was published under in Germany in 1493. The map is only linked in the german wikipedia. The map itself is maybe standard by that time, more aesthetically pleasing that geographic correct, as for example the italian peninsula is horribly distorted. What I personally find interesting is that I can read the german (very old german) text in the upper left. More than 500 years old, some words have changed (they liked to add a „b“ to some words, e.g. „darum“ or „therefore“ is written as „darumb“), the font makes it even harder, but - yeah - I can slowly plow through the text. submitted by /u/MaexW [link] [comments] | |
