U.S. States with State Defense Forces | 32 U.S. Code § 109 allows for any state plus DC, PR, Guam and Virgin Islands to maintain a defense force that is separate from the National Guard, solely under the authority of the state government, and cannot be federalized. SDFs are explicitly not within the armed forces. American Samoa and Northern Mariana Islands are not mentioned in § 109, so by default they are disallowed from maintaining SDFs. submitted by /u/Amynable [link] [comments]

U.S. States with Expanded Medicaid (2025) | Source: https://www.ncsl.org/health/medicaid-expansion#undefined The Affordable Care Act and the Supreme Court case, The National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius permits states to choose to expand their Medicaid programs to provide coverage to low-income adults who make up to 138% of the federal poverty line who would not otherwise qualify for Medicaid under other eligibility pathways. States that expand Medicaid to this population are eligible for an enhanced federal medical assistance percentage for this population. Map of my time doing Vanlife, made with a site I built! | 7 years ago me and a friend bought a van and traveled for 6 months around the country. Fast forward to today, and remembering where exactly we went got more and more difficult. To see where we went, I built out a custom website to map where we went using my photo album from the trip. This is pretty much the exact route, just showing the locations I was in when I took pictures. submitted by /u/LilFahny [link] [comments]

Where same-sex marriage and sodomy could be banned in the United States if Obergefell v. Hodges and Lawrence v. Texas were overturned | This map details the defunct laws that states still have on the books, as lawmakers in certain states have yet to repeal them, even though the Supreme Court has deemed such laws unconstitutional. If Obergefell v. Hodges and Lawrence v. Texas were overturned by the Supreme Court, some of these laws would become active again-though not all, since some were already overturned by lower courts before the Supreme Court ruled. submitted by /u/After-Professional-8 [link] [comments]

Population of Overseas Indians by Country | Source : Ministry of External Affairs (India), Wikipedia. Note: The total number of Overseas Indians is calculated as the sum of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) and Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), which may also include Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) where applicable. This change is due to the phasing out of the former PIO scheme, which has now been fully absorbed into the Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) program. submitted by /u/Brilliant-Nerve12 [link] [comments]

London and Paris underground lines compared (pt2) | This is a follow-up to a previous map I made, with Piccadilly Line replacing the Victoria Line in a comparison between the London tube and Paris métro. Opened around the same time in the early 1900s, the 2 lines illustrate some of the typical differences between the two underground systems: Ligne 4 has short distances between stations, runs at a fairly shallow depth and only stretches a few stops into the suburbs (all of which have been added in the last 2 decades). The Piccadilly Line on the other hand runs far into outer London, has deep tunnels going through the centre and with long distances of sometimes over 2 km between stations. Mapping America's Sushi Scene: "Sushi" Restaurants by State, USA | https://www.caliper.com/featured-maps/maptitude-sushi-restaurants-by-state-map.html While you can find hand rolls at many restaurants and grocery stores, we decided to look at the 12,000 plus restaurants in the United States with "Sushi" in their name for National Hand Roll Day (July 6) and determine the number of "sushi" restaurants per 100,000 people in each state. The national average is 3.6 restaurants per 100,000, and the highest concentration can be found in the Virgin Islands (11.5), Hawaii (12.0), and Nevada (7.1). submitted by /u/maptitude [link] [comments]

I made a map of the USA in Desmos using 199 like equations. | Link: https://www.desmos.com/calculator/u7mq7apjcc My rules were that the coordinates of each state boundary had to be integers. This made for a difficult challenge, especially with some of the more irregularly shaped states. I also limited myself to a range of -30 to +30 on the X axis and -20 to +20 on the Y axis. Much more of a challenge than you might think! Some states are too big or too small, as the integer limitation required a compromise between scale and shape. All are within +-25% of their real area relative to the area of the entire map, with the exception of Kentucky, which is 32% too big. Despite several attempts, I could find any way to make Kentucky smaller without making other states too big/small or grossly distorting their shape. Michigan has the most vertices with 18, followed by Texas and Idaho with 14 and 13. I did not attempt to include Alaska or Hawaii. The entire area is 1,105 units, meaning each 1-unit square is roughly 2,800 square miles. I am most proud of Idaho, Missouri, and West Virginia. If anyone has any ideas for anything that could be tweaked, I am all ears! I also created a version limited to just 100 lines that looks much, much worse but was a fun challenge. submitted by /u/kynetik414 [link] [comments]
