Interesting globe I found | This globe displays Sudan and South Sudan as different countries, meaning that it was made after 2011. However, it labels the DRC as Zaire, a name that hasn’t been officially used since 1997. As a side note, it also labels Sudan as North Sudan instead of just Sudan. submitted by /u/TheRealUltimate1 [link] [comments]

The World Divided into 5 parts with Equal Population | If the world’s 8.2 billion people were split into 5 horizontal slices of equal population, each band would hold about 1.64 billion people ????. The narrowest strips run through some of the planet’s most densely populated areas — like India, China, and Southeast Asia — while vast swathes of land in Siberia, Canada, and the Sahara balance out with fewer inhabitants. It’s a striking reminder of how unevenly humanity is spread across the globe. submitted by /u/NazarData [link] [comments]

Map of al-Andalus' Upper March and its subdivisions, c.950 [OC] | For a better comprehension: a Kūra (plural Kūwar) is the equivalent of a "province" of the Caliphate, while an Iqlīm (plural Aqalīm) is the equivalent of a district of a province. Those names marked with a "?" mean that we aren't sure about if they were the actual centers of the Iqlīm, due to a lack of information. submitted by /u/DaniCBP [link] [comments]

Urheimats of Transeurasian languages | The existence of the Transeurasian (formerly known as Altaic) language family is highly questionable, particularly the presence of Koreanic and Japonic within the family, but recent studies have found many commonalities and words among these languages. The most likely culture for Proto-Turkic is the Slab Grave/Ulaanzuukh culture, from which many Y-DNA Q and N have been found in Xiongnu, Göktürk, and Medieval Turkic tribal samples. However, with the assimilation of the Saka, many Y-DNA R1a and J were absorbed by the Turks. This is supported by autosomal DNA data from Empress Ashina and numerous linguistic data. The origin of Japonic is highly debated, and some researchers have argued that Japonic originated in Southern China, but due to a lack of sufficient data, I have listed the Yayoi culture here. Personally, I believe that this language family is not real because there were patriarchal clans in these groups and the Y-DNA of no group matches each other (Turkic=Q and N, Mongolic and Tungusic=C2, Koreanic and Japonic=O) submitted by /u/Neither_Ticket3829 [link] [comments]
