Middle Earth (pixel art) | I made a map of Middle Earth from Lord of the Rings in pixel art. It was very interesting figuring out what you can depict in a very limited number of pixels, and there are some parts where I couldn't include all the details as there just wasn't room, but overall I'm happy with it. If you're interested in any of the pixel fonts from the map, I'm posting them for free over on my itch.io page. submitted by /u/trampolinebears [link] [comments]

For what country that no longer appears on map do you feel nostalgia? | There’s a trend on TikTok right now where people dig up their old globes or atlases, snap a picture of Yugoslavia, and post it with a certain song (Ljubi se istok i zapad by Plavi Orkestar). It creates this weird sense of nostalgia, even for people like me who’ve never set foot anywhere near what used to be Yugoslavia. submitted by /u/Tight_Mix_347 [link] [comments]

Most popular sport in each country if football didn't exist | Why without football? Because while it’s the most popular sport globally by numbers, it doesn't always do justice in some countries. Some places barely care about football or have no real success or cultural connection to it, yet by absolute numbers it ranks on top. For example, Finland likely has football as number one by participation, but most people there are far more passionate about ice hockey. Removing football makes the global sports map more interesting and diverse. My criteria: cultural impact, fan passion, tradition, international success, and athlete numbers. (though that last one can be misleading, since some sports are easier to access). If a niche sport is close to a major one, I'd go with the niche for its uniqueness. You'd be surprised how much countries care only about football, so I went with whatever minor sport has some presence. Where two sports compete, I chose the one with more passionate fans (Italy is good example of this). I grouped combat sports (boxing, MMA, wrestling, etc.) into one category, and did the same for motorsport and skiing. I mostly relied on first-hand experiences and local forums rather than stats sites or Wikipedia. submitted by /u/Anfernee139 [link] [comments]

Distribution of Indigenous North Americans: A Map | Sources: https://maps.geo.census.gov/ddmv/map.html (United States) https://ia.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Indigenous_population_by_census_division.svg (Canada) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigenous_peoples_of_Mexico# (Mexico) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siberian_Yupik (Russia) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indigenous_peoples_of_the_Americas# (Other) "Indigenous North Americans" for the purposes of this map are defined by self-identification with such related terms in census reporting. This includes Native Americans, American Indians, First Nations Canadians, Inuit, Metis, Indigenous Mexicans, etc. All Yupik peoples have been included in this definition, regardless of Siberian or Alaskan origin. "Race alone or in combination, not Hispanic or Latino, American Indian or Alaska Native." has been used in the United States. Granular detail to the smallest division has been done when possible. Municipalities in most of Mexico, census divisions throughout the United States and Canada, etc. Central America, due to a lack of data, has been done a country-level. Uninhabited islands and regions, or otherwise insignificant islands, have been marked in white. submitted by /u/Kyle320Lawson [link] [comments]
