Accurate map of Atlantis ;D | According to Critias, the Hellenic deities of old divided the land so that each deity might have their own lot; Poseidon was appropriately, and to his liking, bequeathed the island of Atlantis. The island was larger than Ancient Libya and Asia Minor combined,\19])\20])\e]) but it was later sunk by an earthquake and became an impassable mud shoal, inhibiting travel to any part of the ocean. Plato asserted that the Egyptians described Atlantis as an island consisting mostly of mountains in the northern portions and along the shore and encompassing a great plain in an oblong shape in the south "extending in one direction three thousand stadia) [about 555 km; 345 mi], but across the center inland it was two thousand stadia [about 370 km; 230 mi]." Fifty stadia [9 km; 6 mi] from the coast was a mountain that was low on all sides ... broke it off all round about ... the central island itself was five stades in diameter [about 0.92 km; 0.57 mi]. Poseidon carved the mountain where his love dwelt into a palace and enclosed it with three circular moats of increasing width, varying from one to three stadia and separated by rings of land proportional in size. The Atlanteans then built bridges northward from the mountain, making a route to the rest of the island. They dug a great canal to the sea, and alongside the bridges carved tunnels into the rings of rock so that ships could pass into the city around the mountain; they carved docks from the rock walls of the moats. Every passage to the city was guarded by gates and towers, and a wall surrounded each ring of the city. The walls were constructed of red, white, and black rock, quarried from the moats, and were covered with brass, tin, and the precious metal orichalcum, respectively. According to Critias, 9,000 years before his lifetime a war took place between those outside the Pillars of Hercules at the Strait of Gibraltar and those who dwelt within them. The Atlanteans had conquered the parts of Libya within the Pillars of Hercules, as far as Egypt, and the European continent as far as Tyrrhenia, and had subjected its people to slavery. The Athenians led an alliance of resistors against the Atlantean empire, and as the alliance disintegrated, prevailed alone against the empire, liberating the occupied lands. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atlantis submitted by /u/ASTRONACH [link] [comments]

Where Swedes ???????????????? are the minority in Sweden ???????? | Data from : SCB Foreign/Swedish Background Map made in : quikplots.com I posted a map on my profile, which shows the largest foreign group per county in Sweden. Many of the comments argued that "Sweden has a migration problem around the country". This map shows in detail, that majority of Sweden's municipalities have more Swedes than foreigners. Only some (10 out of 290) Municipalities have the opposite. So, Which municipalities in Sweden have a majority foreign (1) population in 2024 (Latest data)? According to data from SCB Out of 290, 10 municipalities have a majority foreign population. Where the population of Swedes (2) is below 50%. The 10 Municipalities are (With percentage of Swedes) : Upplands Väsby | 46.8% Jäfälla | 43.6% Botkyrka | 31.7% Upplands-Bro | 48.7% Södertälje | 34.8% Sundbyberg | 48.0% Sigtuna | 43.3% Burlöv | 46.2% Malmö | 45.7% Haparanda | 37.8% For this map I excluded the variable "born in Sweden, with 1 parent born in Sweden, and 1 foreign born parent". Which can be added to the Swedes total population. If you include this variable, the amount of municipalities with a foreign majority falls to 5. To calculate the percentages for each Municipality: ( Swedes / ( Foreign + Swedes) ) * 100 The data is exported from SCB and cleaned in Excel. Values are highlighted using conditional formatting. If you want a copy of my Excel sheet, DM. (The data in SCB's website can be hard to work with directly) Footnote (1) Born in a foreign country + Born in Sweden with 2 foreign born parents. (2) Born in Sweden with 2 parents born in Sweden. submitted by /u/quikplots [link] [comments]

1581 Map of the Known World, Heinrich Bünting | From https://collections.leventhalmap.org/search/commonwealth:3f462s41k : "Depicting the world as a cloverleaf, this cartographic curiosity reflects the traditional Medieval world view of three continents. Since it was published in the late-16th century long after the New World discoveries had gained wide acceptance, its primary appeal would have been to readers who cherished the past. It was one of several whimsical diagrams included in a book, which was essentially the Bible rewritten as an illustrated travel book. The author, a professor of theology in Hannover, used the trefoil or cloverleaf arms of his native city to represent the world, making this map more a statement of civic pride than a serious attempt at cartography. Each of the three leaves represents one of the continents -- Asia, Europe, and Africa. At the intersection of the leaves, Jerusalem is clearly marked. In recognition of the New World discoveries, America is shown almost as an afterthought in the lower left hand corner." submitted by /u/MemeBuster3641 [link] [comments]

Map of my 31‑day journey, cycling and climbing the 72 publicly accessible mountains above 14,000 feet in the contiguous USA | I departed on September 3 from Longs Peak, Colorado and finally summited Mount Rainier, Washington two days ago, on Saturday October 3. In total, this took more than 3100 miles, 400,000 feet of elevation gain, and almost 489 hours on the move, on average 16 hours each day. Super happy to have completed this journey and to be able to look back at this map! submitted by /u/Kilian_Jornet [link] [comments]
