[Botany • 2021] Eranthemum decumbens (Acanthaceae) • A New Species from Thailand and Laos

    Eranthemum decumbens Kladwong & Chantar.,

    in Kladwong & Chantaranothai, 2021.
     เข็มประกายพฤกษ์ || DOI: 10.1111/njb.03260

    Abstract
During preparation of a revision of the genus Eranthemum (Acanthaceae), it became evident that nine specimens from eastern and south-eastern floristic regions of Thailand and southern Laos represent a new species which is herein described, illustrated and given the name Eranthemum decumbens. The new species has affinities to E. strictum and E. roseum. A key to the species of Eranthemum occurring in Thailand is provided, together with ecological data, distribution map and conservation status.

[Herpetology • 2022] First Record of the Annam Kukri Snake Oligodon annamensis Leviton, 1953 (Squamata: Colubridae) From Thailand

    Oligodon annamensis Leviton, 1953

    in Lee, 2022.

    Abstract
I report the first documentation of the rare Kukri Snake species Oligodon annamensis Leviton, 1953 from Thailand based on a previously unidentified specimen collected in 1987 from the tropical rain forests of Chanthaburi Province, southeastern Thailand. This species was previously known from only four specimens collected at three localities in the Langbian Plateau of southern Vietnam and the Cardamom Mountains of western Cambodia. This new specimen extends the distribution of O. annamensis approximately 90.4 kilometers northwest from the nearest location in Phnom Samkos Wildlife Sanctuary, Pursat Province, Cambodia.

Keywords: Reptilia, Cardamom mountains, biodiversity, Southeast Asia, taxonomy

[Invertebrate • 2022] Metaphire acampanulata • A New Earthworm Species of the Genus Metaphire Sims & Easton, 1972 (Oligochaeta: Megascolecidae) from Southern Vietnam

    Metaphire acampanulata
Nguyen, Ly, Lam, Nguyen & Nguyen, 2022

    Abstract
A new species, Metaphire acampanulata sp. nov., was described from Southern Vietnam. The species belonging to Metaphire houlleti species-group, can be characterized by having three pairs of spermathecal pores in 6/7/8/9, genital markings invisible, first dorsal pore in 11/12 or 12/13, spermatheca mushroom-shaped, ampulla duct L-shaped, and penial setae present. The K2P genetic distance based on a 600 bp fragment of the mitochondrial gene, COI, between the new species and its closely related one, M. houlleti, was 18.8%, and the intraspecific distance between its populations was from 0.3 to 9.8%.

Keywords: Metaphire houlleti, Metaphire cf. campanulata, morphological variations, genetic variations, new species, taxonomy, Southern Vietnam

Metaphire acampanulata sp. nov., holotype (CTU-EW.018.h01).
A1 and A2.Ventral view of male region. B1 and B2. Left spermathecae. C1 and C2. Intestinal caecum. D1 and D2. Lateral view of spermathecal region. E.Dorsal view of male organs. F1 and F2. Right prostate gland. G. Male pore region transverse body section (CTU-EW.018.p02).
Abbreviations: amp, ampulla; ag, accessory gland; dv, diverticulum; mp, male pore; os, ovisacs; ov, ovary; ps, penial seta; sp, spermathecal pore; sv, seminal vesicle; ts, testis sac. Scale bar = 1mm.

     Metaphire acampanulata sp. nov.

Diagnosis: Medium size, length 77–198 mm, diameter 4.03–6.91 mm, number of segments 56–144. Prostomium epilobic. First dorsal pore in11/12 or 12/13. Three pairs of spermathecal pores in 6/7/8/9, ventrolaterally or laterally. Male pore in xviii, copulatory pouches present; ventral distance between openings of the pouches about 0.21–0.37 circumference. Genital markings inconspicuous. Intestinal caeca simple. Septa 8/9/10 absent. Spermathecal ampulla mushroom shaped with longitudinal grooveson the surface, duct L-shaped. More than two stalk accessory glands attach anteriorly and posteriorly to the base of the ampulla duct. Penial setae present. Holandric. Testis sacs connected. Ovisacs paired in 12/13/14.

Etymology: An epithet ‘acampanulata’ is formed by the prefix ‘a’ and ‘campanulata’ to emphasize the wrong name ‘campanulata’ recorded in Vietnam.
    Vietnamese name: giun khác campanulata
