Orders persecuting trans people, USA
*US park service
erases references to trans people
from Stonewall Inn website.*
Removing mentions of trans people from government web sites is not
just deletion of attitudes and opinions, or even advice — it covers
historical fact as well.
I admire the people who fought the thugs at Stonewall. No matter that it
wasn't my own fight; it was a fight for the freedom not to conform to
rigidity, and that is something to cheer for.

Urgent: The voter suppression bill
US citizens:
call on
Congress to defeat the SAVE Act.
"This baseless voter suppression bill would create unnecessary barriers
to voting for [nonwhites], young people, disabled people, transgender
people, people with low incomes, tribal voters, rural voters,
survivors of natural and climate disasters, and military families,
not to mention the tens of millions of married women who have changed
their names."
It would also block remote registration and registration by mail.

Coup profits big business, US
Only
the biggest of big businesses are likely to benefit from the
wrecker's coup. Those are the ones that can
expect the
corrupter to appreciate their support, and reward them. The
others will suffer from the tariffs, if the tariffs don't get
negotiated away.

US DoJ vs NYC in legal scandal
Mayor Adams of NYC is the beneficiary of some sort of deal with
the corrupter,
who has ordered the
Department
of Justice to drop charges against Adams.
It looks like what Adams did for the corrupter in return was to aid
deportation raids in NYC.
I got mail from a campaign to call on New York Governor Hochul to
remove Adams as mayor. I did not sign it because I expect that
signatures of people who don't live in that state won't count,
but I hope she does so.
Several
officials
involved with the prosecution
have
resigned in outrage. I share their outrage, but I think it would
have been better in this situation not to quit. Now they will be
replaced will loyal henchmen. If they had stayed in position until
fired, they might have had the chance to do something for justice and
get away with it, at least for a while.
In the old days, officials resigning in outrage would have been a
scandal and had an influence on the next election. But
today's magats are
so isolated from the truth that they will hardly care about it.

USAID closure entailment
The closure of USAID will spread confusion and cause independent media
outlets to shut down. That will leave the field clear for
propaganda
and disinformation published by states.
I suppose the
wrecker's advisors will be pleased by this.

Undermining national agencies, UK
Labour is imitating the wrecker by undermining crucial
agencies
that regulate businesses. Details in the article.
Perhaps that's their idea of how to promote economic growth of
business: by letting them disregard regulations intended to prevent
them from doing various sorts of harm.

"DEI" as a dogwhistle
Republicans use "DEI" as a racist dogwhistle — to presume, based on
nothing at all, that
every
black is unqualified for per job.
I linked above to that article because it tells us something
important about racism. Racism is an intense form of bigotry; it is a
collective injustice that I condemn, and support the campaign against.
I think making a link to that article will help that campaign.
Ironically, that article itself embodies symbolic bigotry by
capitalizing "black" but not "white". (To avoid this bigotry,
capitalize both words or neither one.) I denounce lesser forms of
bigotry too, and I don't want to normalize symbolic bigotry by letting
it pass without calling it out. Normally I avoid any mention of
articles that practice it.
I had conflicting feelings about that article based on these two valid
goals: to make a link, because of its important point about racism, or
not to link, to avoid normalizing the article's own bigotry. I
concluded that the first goal could not be neglected, and made the
link. But the second goal also should not be neglected -- hence this
note to criticize the article's own bigotry.

Defining and redefining antisemitism
Harvard adopted the misguided IRHA definition of antisemitism, and
based
on that definition punished protesters who campaigned against the
bombardment and siege of Gaza.
It is possible some of them actually endorsed antisemitism,
but with
that
bad definition it is quite likely that some of them were falsely
labeled as "antisemitic".

RFK Jr. is Secretary of HHS
Antivaxxer
RFK Jr. has been confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human
Services.
Millions of Americans will be at risk if he undermines vaccination.
Will vaccines for the latest flu and Covid-19 variants be prepared at all?
By now we have seen that the Senate's Republicans are too intimidated
to reject any nominee, no matter how outrageously unfit.
The wrecker's
Gaza plan is provoking
condemnation
from jihadis and from right-wing white nationalists.
