US put German tourist in prison
The deportation thugs
put
a German tourist in deportation prison
because she was carrying tattoo needles. They suspected her of
planning to do work (making tattoos) instead of being a tourist.
The basic point may be valid — I don't know. However, if they intend
to send her to Germany, why keep her in deportation prison so long?
The could have sent her weeks before.
I can't assert that this harshness is the fault of
the persecutor. It
might be so, but the deportation
thugs have been cruel for years.
Maybe this is not new.

The US we thought we knew is gone
*The
US we thought we knew is gone – and Australians know it.*
Australia should consider whether it can rely on US-made weapons
systems to function as expected. Will there be a surprise demand for an
expensive subscription — perhaps to sell half of Australia's mining output
to the US at a discounted price?
Did those weapon systems come with complete source code?
Or will software maintenance depend on an entity under US control?

Steps to make Europe more secure
*How do we make Europe more secure? Here are
five
steps we need to take now.*
* Some might agonize about whether Zelenskyy could have played things
differently. It's the wrong question. The point is that we can't carry
on being so dependent on every meeting at the White House.*

Forest logging increase
The wrecker
ordered logging in
half
a million square miles of US forests.
This doesn't mean those forests will be razed, but does mean more
logging, and in some places increased fire danger.
The worst part is that he wants to disregard protection of endangered
species.

Wiping out wild side
Right-wing politicians in Spain push to wipe out the rewilded lynx,
just as
right-wing politicians in the US push to wipe out wolves.
Both of them spread an exaggerated fear of danger from the animals they
want to kill, while ignoring the ways those animals, in limited numbers,
are beneficial for human activities.

Expense vs rational climate adaptation
The extent of commitment given by governments that ought to know
better to far-fetched energy schemes —
carbon
capture and storage, and new kinds of nuclear fission —
suggests to me that governments' reason for supporting them is
influence by the businesses that stand to profit from them. I can't
see any other reason there could be.
