Time Event
2:39a
Academic freedom

Harvard is suing the US misgovernment calling on judges to rule in favor of academic freedom.

2:39a
Palestinian activist

"ICE" stands for "not nice", using a double negative. It refused to allow Mahmoud Khalil to join is wife as she gave birth, rejecting several ways that would have been lawful and reasonable.

I speculate this is part of a standard tactic used by many brutal-minded "law enforcers" in various countries: to convince the public that someone is very dangerous, pretend perse is very dangerous and take superfluous precautions accordingly; to convince the public that someone is a monster, be superfluously cruel to person.

2:39a
Peace plan

Putin has agreed to have direct discussions with Ukraine about a hypothetical peace deal.

This is a gesture which doesn't commit Putin to anything. It has no significant progress.

2:39a
City from wood

Building a city out of wood, but not with the old methods, eliminates a lot of the CO2 emissions and makes building a lot faster.

2:39a
Virtual classes and loneliness

The virtual classes common in many colleges leads to isolating loneliness with no chance to meet people and converse.

This is the consequence of using software which (though the users don't recognize this) is based on nonfree software that subjugates them.

2:39a
Trump's voter requirement

A court order has blocked the persecutor's attempt to impose voter-id nationally.

Republicans are trying to do the same thing with legislation.

That might be upheld by courts, and it would do the same harm.

2:39a
Defend section 230

Why Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act must be defended.

I agree with the article's position but I am revulsed by its use of the word "content"

to refer to what people write, or what people say.

2:39a
Merger of credit services

Non-regulators appointed by the saboteur in chief have approved the merger of Discover Financial and Capital One, two enormous financial companies.

Lina Khan would have prevented this.

2:39a
Bomb threat, Columbia U.

A bomb threat was announced against protesters at Columbia University protesting on behalf of Palestinians. Columbia's public response presented the protesters as possible culprits rather than as the targets.

(Barnard College is part of Columbia University, and it seems the school thugs are using the bomb threat as an excuse to use more force against the protesters while trying to cast them as terrorists.)

2:39a
Coral reef bleaching

*Coral reefs have a high concentration of biodiversity that supports about a third of all marine species and 109 billion people.* They are having the worst bleaching event ever before recorded, because they are hotter now than was ever before recorded.
