extended host profiles (build 5966)
Sorry for jumping the gun :)

hosts_profiles_alt doesn't exist in schema.sql but it is referenced by frontends/php/hostprofiles.php

...this causes an error. My guess is it should be hosts_profiles_ext in hostprofiles.php, but I figured you could fix svn.

Zabbix Service
Hi guys.

Hopefully someone can help me. I have been plugging a way with Zabbix all week and openSuse 11 rebuilding my server god knows how many times but finally i think i may have cracked it. The install went pretty good this time and i can login to the web page with no issues.

However when i click on the reports page it says my Zabbix service is not running. Ok i thought i will just type in service zabbix start but it informs me such service.

Any ideas at what point i have gone wrong and how i cant start the service it needs?

Thanks in advance

Craig

Alerting on errors in windows logs.
I have read everything I can find on this site and no one seems to be just trying to alert on all errors in windows logs. If i knew what was going to break I could set up a monitor for each individual event but how do I alert on all errors?

What I have:
Zabbix 1.4.2

Item:
Description: Application log
Type: Zabbix Active
Key: eventlog[Application]
Type of information : log
Update every 30 seconds

Trigger:
Name: Application Log errors
Expression: {Template_Windows:eventlog[Application].logseverity(4)}=4

All I get is a status unknown. What is missing/wrong?

Trigger Blink Period Setting
Hi,

It should very useful if that two values was settable in web Interface
on Configuration->General->Triggers

Code:

        define('TRIGGER_FALSE_PERIOD',                  1800);
        define('TRIGGER_BLINK_PERIOD',                  1800);

-> in frontends/includes/defines.inc.php

Pierre.

Zabbix 1.5.5 Trunk: 5958 - Graphs - Favorites
Zabbix 1.5.5 Trunk: 5958 - Graphs - Favorites

I am still trying to confirm if this is just my workstation or if it is a problem. I have some other users who are testing this for me.

Problem I am seeing is that when you are viewing a Custom Graph, the favorite button in the top right does nothing when clicked. Usually it turns from "+" to "-" showing that the graph has been added to the user's favorites. The other buttons full screen, etc. work fine.

I was wondering if anyone else is seeing this behavior. :D

Call for MySQL monitoring testers
Hi folks,

I'm working on a very comprehensive MySQL monitoring solution that tracks about 172 different variables, monitors replication, flags configuration and security problems, etc.

It is very targeted right now: MySQL 5.0 specifically. Gathered via a php script.

Anybody who is experienced with MySQL, and could help me work out the kinks, please send me a private message with your email. I'll publish to the wiki as soon as it's reasonably solid.

Currently, I have the variables gathered, and am working on the triggers now.

For reference, I'm mainly combining:

Unreachable, Unavailable...?!
Hello, everyone.

I got a bit confused with two identical lines I found in the zabbix server configuration file; they both mention the UnavailableDelay period.

Can anyone help me make some sense of this "flow"? I mean, how much time does exactly does Zabbix spend to make a host unreachable in the interface, and fire a trigger?

thanks in advance,

Enable Jabber Messaging alerts - PHP Script
Hello, everyone.

Having tried for a long time to activate the native Zabbix Jabber messaging support, I have searched the net for some solution regarding this problem.

And recently I found the XMPPHP framework at http://code.google.com/p/xmpphp/, tried it out, works just great..

However, the sample script that is provided at the page doesn´t work at the first time and needs some changing.

This is the version I used, tried and true, with our Jabber server.

Code:

#!/usr/bin/php
<?php

// Load the necessary class
include("xmpphp/XMPPHP/XMPP.php");

// Invoke the connect function, give it arguments
// Use a static JabberID here, it is the Sender ID from the server

$conn = new XMPPHP_XMPP('jabber.org, 5222, 'dummy', 'dummypass', 'xmpphp', 'domain.tld', $printlog=False);
$conn->connect();
$conn->processUntil('session_start');
$conn->message($_SERVER['argv'][1], $_SERVER['argv'][2]);
$conn->disconnect();
?>

Please try this out and tell me if it works for you. Note that you must replace stuff like dummy, dummypass,server and domain etc with your authentication credencials.

Thanks in advance,

Ivo Pereira

Windows Agent / Parameter
I´m trying to monitor shared folder size of a lot of shares.

As there seems to be no inbuild agent function I have add an
user defined function.

But I was not able to pass a parameter to a user defined function.
So I´m ending adding for each folder a user defined function.

Is there any way to pass a parameter to a user defined function using
the zabbix windows agent?

I tried to compile the windows agent without success, idea was to add
the folder size function to the windows agent.
I found some hints in the forum, but still it is not compiling.
Has there someone expirience?

Gerald

Confusing graphs in 1.5 (build 5962)
Please tell me I'm not crazy. It took me like 5 minutes to understand this graph. Why does it have two scales? One on the right and one on the left? It only needs one!

To me it looks like swap used went from 7.6 GB to 0. When in reality it changed by a few megabytes yet there is an almost vertical line in the middle going from the top to the bottom!

Screen grouping
I suggest to add some screen grouping possibility. I have 1000+ screens. To be exact
mysql> select count(*) from screens;
+----------+
| count(*) |
+----------+
| 1241 |
+----------+
and I think there'll be more. Navigating through them will become a headache very soon =( So some simple grouping (maybe with groups from hosts_groups) would be very nice.

1.4.6 dependencies
I seem to have issues with dependencies again. I have a trigger to monitor when a system is rebooted. When it has, I don't want to get alerts that it becomes unavailable, obviously. However I do. The unavailable trigger is dependent on the reboot trigger. Has anyone had luck with 1.4.6 and getting this working?

Installation woes
This is the second try I've had at installing Zabbix and no luck. The first time was a failed attempt at installing from source. The documentation is less than stellar regarding doing the installation, so I went to another server (Fedora 9) and installed the RPM version. That went better, but now I'm stuck on the web installation section. After fixing the couple of issues with php.ini settings I was able to get all the way to the zabbix.conf.php file. Here's where things fail badly.

Every time I try to test this I get this at the top of the page:

* Undefined variable: NC[/etc/zabbix/zabbix.conf.php:34]
* Undefined variable: NC[/etc/zabbix/zabbix.conf.php:34]
* Incorrect configuration file[/usr/share/zabbix/conf/zabbix.conf.php]
* mysql_pconnect() [function.mysql-pconnect]: Access denied for user 'zabbix'@'localhost' (using password: YES)[/etc/zabbix/db.inc.php:46]

Now, the MYSQL problem was tested (and told me OK) so why this is showing up is beyond me. The undefined variable in line 34 of the conf file isnt undefined that I could see.

But beyond that, when I save the new config file and place it where it tells me to (/usr/share/zabbix/conf/) and do a 'retry', it still fails.

I'd really like to try out this piece of software, but this is getting silly. Any ideas?

1.5 dashboard triggers
I've encountered a situation in which dashboard displayed wrong total number of true triggers.
The problem as I see it is that dashboard's section 'Zabbix status' does not check for trigger dependencies. All my hosts triggers depend on a hosts avaliability via icmp. I tried the sql zabbix's dashboard uses to determine number of true triggers and found that few triggers, (depending on icmpping.nodata() that was true) also had value field == 1.

I suppose it could have happened if "child" trigger was true and then "parent" trigger became true and I finally got a wrong number in true-triggers total. Or it's at least confusing.

No data from TEMPLATE_APP_MYSQL
Zabbix Server: 1.4.6
DB: MySQL
Testing: Template_APP_MYSQL
Problem: graphs with Template_App_MySQL doesn't show data.

i come back to Zabbix after few months without time to test it. i started new insallation from last stable. i can collect a lot of data but i have doubts with mysql. i think i followed correctly all steps from documentation. My test is one machine with Zabbix Server, and another machine with MySQL Server and zabbix_agentd to collect MySQL data. I uncommented next values on agentd on MySQL server machine and if i execute it i can see correct values:

Code:

UserParameter=mysql.ping,mysqladmin -uroot -pmipass  ping|grep alive|wc -l
UserParameter=mysql.uptime,mysqladmin -uroot -pmipass status|cut -f2 -d":"|
UserParameter=mysql.threads,mysqladmin -uroot -pmipass status|cut -f3 -d":"
UserParameter=mysql.questions,mysqladmin -uroot -pmipass status|cut -f4 -d"
UserParameter=mysql.slowqueries,mysqladmin -uroot -pmipass status|cut -f5 -
UserParameter=mysql.qps,mysqladmin -uroot -pmipass status|cut -f9 -d":"
UserParameter=mysql.version,mysql -V

mysqladmin returns me correct data but graphs on zabbix web are empty. Other common graphs returns data but no mysql. I try to test mysql.ping on MySQL server to monitor with zabbix agentd and works well:

Testing ping&more

Code:

# /usr/local/zabbix/bin/zabbix_agentd -t mysql.ping
mysql.ping                                    [t|1]
# /usr/local/zabbix/bin/zabbix_agentd -t mysql.uptime
mysql.uptime                                  [t| 15968  ]
 /usr/local/zabbix/bin/zabbix_agentd -t mysql.threads
mysql.threads                                [t| 3  ]

Fully MySQL monitoring solution -- advice needed
Hi folks,

I'm working on a full monitoring solution for MySQL, and it's about 162 variables total.

Need some advise on the mechanics of this: So far, I am gathering the info via PHP, and was going to have it calling shell("zabbix_sender $host ...").

I need some help understanding if this is the optimum scheme to send from multiple hosts (master db, 2nd master, slave, etc.).

For instance, here's various questions I'd like some help on:
  1. Do I have to pre-configure the items in Zabbix before the agent sends, or can I create the script first?
  2. I'm probably going to divide this into 2 or 3 different scripts, 1 that provides fast response (i.e every minute or so), and another that is once/hr or so. How would the server request this? For instance, with mysql.Connections, mysql.Aborted_connects, mysql.Aborted_clients are all provided by script 1, whereas mysql.Root_login_enabled would be by script 2. How do I relate the time for polling each? How does this relate to UserParameter in zabbix_agentd.conf?
  3. I'd like to mass-create the xml to import this, rather than keying in via the web. Are there docs somewhere for the format for the xml file? What are type, and value_type, for example?
  4. The docs say zabbix_send can take an input file. I'm pretty sure it's the latest version from ubuntu, but mine doesn't seem to have that option. Do I need to manually compile?

What are some other things to consider? Is there a better way to do this?

TIA
Mike
