Dragon and Fairy Legend

According to legend, the first Vietnamese existed about 5000 years ago. Lac Long Quan, a man descended from dragons, married Au Co, a woman whose ancestors were fairies. Au Co gave birth to 100 children in one pouch. When the children grew up, 50 of them followed their mother to settle in the mountains, and the other 50 children followed their father to lowlands near the sea. Every year they see each other once. For that story, the Vietnamese called themselves the Dragon-Fairy. History books tell us that the first Vietnamese family to dominate the country was the Hong Bang.
