Question of the day: Who the fuck needs this idiotic missile defense system in Europe?
First of, missile defense systems don't work against low flying small missiles, against multiple warhead large missiles and, actually, against anything else. The interception rate is at best 20%...In fact, the rate is close to 0%.
Here's why. Let's say this shit is to protect Europe from terrorists. Now, let's assume that the terrorists launch a ballistic missile from - I don't know - Kosovo (don't ask me how - I think Jerry Bruchheimer would have a better idea). The time it takes a ballistic missile to get to Paris from Kosovo is probably 30 minutes to Paris and 15 minutes to Rome.
So, this missile shield will detect something flying to Paris. Naturally, it will have to make some calls to some human beings in NATO command center - it cant just shoot the thing down unless it's sure, what is being shot down. These people are likely to be playing golf or scratching their balls at home. So, 15-20 minutes to figure out what to do, then another 15-20 minutes to get ready and then get this 20% success hit rate. I'd say the imaginary terrorists will get a 99% chance of having an unintercepted attack.
I suspect that chances of the terrosists' evil equipment malfunctioning are orders of magnitude higher, than those of their missile being shot down. So, this retarded shield will improve the odds of the europeans to survive by something, which is well within the margin of error. And by the way - using a plane as a missile will still be an option for the terrorists.
The shield, which doesn't protect anyone, will cost many billions of dollars. It has already pissed off Russia, which is quite accurately pointing out the bizzarre nature of the enterprise, and not so unreasonably assuming that the shield is directed at it, not at the "rogue states". One may argue, that Russia is sort of a rogue state. Quite possibly, it is, except that they have the multy-warhead things, against which the shield is completely useless.
Now, why are Bush and Co hell bent on going forward with this? I am sure, that it's all about the contracts for Northorp, Lockheed, Boeing, KBR and the rest of the boys.
How many more things will these shitheads fuck up before their time in office runs out? Is there anyone to rein them in? Who is still buying their lies? |
