i don't believe so. i think the plan is to keep the PM's seat filled until the election of one of the two (Medvedev/Ivanov) occurs. That is, I don't think that any successor will even be officially and publicly backed by Putin. He will simply preserve stability and let Ivanov/Medvedev to have elections. That's the most reasonable thing to do.
Conspiracy theories about his return to power are utter bullshit. There's no reason for Putin to associate himself with either of the groups thus upsetting the balance. He is not Yeltsin and people aren't asking for his blood, so he doesn't need to secure succession beyond keeping the money in the club. |
