Сильное впечатление произвел пассаж, связанный системой общественного питания. «Пообедать в городе - для меня серьезная проблема, - говорит Каспаров, - В Москве есть кафе и рестораны, которым я могу доверять, но спецслужбам очень быстро становится известно, что я туда зашел». А я-то, наивный, иногда захаживаю, хотя недешево. Ну как же мы позабыли, что все бармены и официанты в московских пабах и ресторанах – это завербованные агенты КГБ, а столики напичканы «жучками», с помощью которых «Большой Брат» Путин следит за подвыпившими согражданами! «Все, с этого дня не буду ходить в любимую пиццерию», - подумал я, прочитав «Таймс».

Если серьезно, то мне жаль доверчивых читателей уважаемой газеты, чье впечатление о жизни в России будет составлено по рассказам Гарри Каспарова и его друзей. В Москве давно не расстреливают и не пытают диссидентов в подвалах Лубянки, медведи не ездят на трамвае, а на центральных площадях не танцуют пьяные бородатые женщины. Байки про агентов КГБ, преследующих бывшего чемпиона мира по шахматам – это либо паранойя, либо клоунада, сознательная игра на стереотипах зарубежного бомонда, призванная выбить у нее слезу и щедрые чаевые.

Так, мы читаем: «Совсем недавно мы стали свидетелями, как путинское полицейское государство сбросило маску. Против участников мирного шествия применили водометы, слезоточивый газ, на них натравливали сторожевых собак; людей арестовывали сотнями, без всякого разбора [задержан был и сам Каспаров]. Когда подобные люди избивают политических оппонентов, задерживают их, ни о какой демократии и гражданских правах в России говорить нельзя».

Все верно. Только Каспаров перепутал место и время. Вышеописанное происходило не в Москве, а в столице одного из государств Европейского союза – Эстонии, где население протестовало против демонтажа властями памятника солдатам, погибшим в боях с фашистской Германией. Там были и слезоточивый газ, и водометы, и светошумовые гранаты, и собаки, и стрельба в упор резиновыми пулями, и даже убийство. 

За две недели до этих событий в Москве городские власти действительно запретили проведение оппозиционного шествия, а полиция весьма грубо и неумело разогнала немногочисленную несанкционированную демонстрацию (хотя рассказы Каспарова про слезоточивый газ – откровенная ложь). На мой взгляд, этого не следовало делать – тогда Каспаров гулял бы по бульварам в гордом одиночестве. Однако хочу заметить, что под запретом оказалось лишь шествие - митинг оппозиции был разрешен и он состоялся без всяких жертв в центре города. 

Лидеры эстонских антифашистов, в том числе несовершеннолетний школьник Марк Сирык, до сих пор находятся в тюрьме, а Гарри Каспаров даже не был арестован: после составления протокола в полицейском участке его доставили в суд, который оштрафовал шахматиста на 20 фунтов. Очень «жестокое» наказание для профессионального революционера, провоцирующего массовые беспорядки и призывающего к насильственному свержению власти. 

Именно это свержение, вероятно, является смыслом деятельности организации, одним из лидеров которой является г-н Каспаров. Она называет себя «Другая Россия». К нашумевшей кинокартине Алехандро Аменабара «Другие» с Николь Кидман в главной роли это название отношения не имеет. Хотя деятельность группы людей, считающих себя политиками, очень перекликается с сюжетом фильма: его герои тоже считали себя людьми, а оказались призраками. На самом деле, термин «Другая Россия» придумал один из лидеров этой организации Эдуард Лимонов, основатель «национал-большевистской партии» (НБП). Причем он выступил с идеей «Другой России» задолго до появления Путина, еще при Ельцине, противопоставляя эту «другую» новой, демократической России. 

«Большевиками» называли себя радикальные русские социалисты в начале прошлого века. В октябре 1917 г. они с помощью уличных столкновений захватили власть в России, после чего долгие десятилетия уничтожали русский народ и его культуру. Название партии Лимонова можно перевести как «национал-социалистическая», или фашистская. Взгляды этих людей являются причудливой смесью национализма и коммунизма: бритые молодчики выходят на демонстрации под лозунгами «Да здравствует Сталин! Да здравствует ГУЛАГ! Да здравствует русская империя!», а их символикой является фантазия на тему флага партии Адольфа Гитлера (только вместо свастики они поместили в белый круг на красном фоне черные серп и молот). 

НБП активно поддерживала войну в Чечне, а Лимонов призывал сажать в концлагеря журналистов, которые писали о ней правду, и к числу которых относилась Анна Политковская. Лимонов даже успел отсидеть несколько лет в тюрьме. Но не за борьбу с «путинским полицейским государством», а за создание вооруженной группировки для захвата власти в соседнем государстве: по мнению Лимонова, «другая Россия» - это империя, куда будут насильственно включены все бывшие республики СССР и страны Восточной Европы.

Теперь фашист Лимонов стоит в одном строю с либеральным романтиком Каспаровым. Но этот фантастический кентавр никогда бы не смог бегать по московским улицам, если бы не всадник, претендующий на роль лидера оппозиции и чуть ли не кандидата в российские президенты. Речь о Михаиле Касьянове – «оппозиционере», всю жизнь верой и правдой служившем власти. Сначала, при Ельцине - министром финансов, затем, при Путине - премьер-министром. 

За время службы он получил странное прозвище «Миша два процента». Говорят, что это связано с размером «обязательных платежей» по импортным контрактам и операциям с российским внешним долгом. Сегодня Касьянов, ни дня не занимавшийся частным бизнесом, перемещается по России и за рубежом исключительно на частных самолетах и в окружении многочисленной охраны. Затраты только на это за последние 3 года составили не один миллион долларов. Люди, ранее окружавшие скромного госслужащего Касьянова, сегодня покупают самую дорогую недвижимость в лондонском Сити.

Сегодня либерал-популисты, фашисты и государственные олигархи объединились ради свержения Путина. В политическом плане эта маргинальная публика не имеет поддержки. Она может добиться своей цели только насильственным путем, через устройство провокаций и рассказывание небылиц корреспондентам западных газет. Но они не придут к власти. Хочу заранее проинформировать правительство Ее Величества, что, если в России будет установлен правящий режим «Другой России», я буду вынужден просить политического убежища в Великобритании. 

Учитывая, что «Другую Россию» поддерживает проживающий в Лондоне и пользующийся покровительством властей Соединенного королевства Борис Березовский, для такого шага у меня будут веские основания. А упомянутый джентльмен сможет беспрепятственно покинуть Англию – уверяю, что такой обмен будет в интересах британских подданных.

“STATE TERROR” OR PARANOIA?

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my appreciation to an esteemed “The Times” newspaper for the interview taken by Danny Scott, “A Life in the Day: Garry Kasparov”, published on May 6th. If the interview, by whatever reason, had not gone public, I would have never known the bitter truth about monstrous realities of today’s life in Moscow, which resembles more the life in London. The only thing, it is not all about present London, but the fictional one, created by imagination of George Orwell and depicted by the author in the anti-utopian “1984” novel. 

“… if I go outside I know I’m being followed by the security services” – the interview protagonist narrates – “the fact that I’ve chosen to speak out against the situation in Russia means I am probably under surveillance 24 hours a day… When I travel around Moscow, I take four or five bodyguards with me and never travel on public transport”.   

After these lines I have almost made up my mind to hire about a dozen of bodyguards, as being a member of the Parliament I use to oppose to and criticize the current state of affairs in my country, I have become a shareholder of the “Novaya Gazeta” (New Gazette) opposition newspaper and finally, I have been lucky enough to gain a suit in the Supreme Court against the Prime Minister on the issue matter of infringement of lawful rights of the Parliament on the part of the executive power authorities. To my regret, after another revelation by Mr. Kasparov I have understood crystal clear that personal security agents wouldn’t be of any good, as “you cannot stand against the state terror machine in Russia. If they want to hurt me, they’ll hurt me”. At any rate I still have the option to abandon all the trips by any means of Moscow public transport, which, apropos, fully deserves to be called terrible (I do hope these words of mine never catch the eye of the mayor Luzhkov, since if they do – nothing will help me out in this life).  

I was deeply impressed with another pass related to the public catering system. “Eating lunch in Moscow is a big problem for me” – Mr. Kasparov complains – “there are a few cafes and restaurants I can trust, but it is not long before the security services know I’m there…”. Poor and naive me – occasionally I drop in at some cafes and bistros, although the prices are far from being affordable. How could we forget that all the bartenders and waiters employed at Moscow pubs or restaurants are either recruited or crimped agents of the KGB, and the tables at such food establishments are always stuffed with the “bugs” used by the “big brother” Putin to watch over tipsy fellow citizens?! “Fine! From now onwards I quit paying visits to my favorable pizzeria” –  I have decided by the end of reading “The Times” issue.  

But seriously, I feel really sorry for the credulous readers of the reputed newspaper, whose opinion about Russia would be formed on the basis of Garry Kasparov’s tales (or could we call him O. Henry from now on?), and those of his mates. It has been a long time the dissidents are not gunned down in the streets of Moscow or tortured to death in the dungeons of Lubyanka. But that is not all – bears never take trams for a ride, and central squares of the city are not crowded with dancing drunk and bearded women. The fairy-tales or silly jokes about KGB agents, haunting down the former chess champion either stand for paranoia or clownery, meaning a conscious and deliberate piece played over older stereotypes of the foreign beau-monde, aimed to stir it to tears and urged to push the foreigners pay generous tips. 

For example, in the same interview we come across this move: “ Just recently we saw the mask come off the Putin police state. They arrested hundreds of people indiscriminately [including Kasparov], and water cannons, tear gas and attack dogs were brought in to control the peaceful marchers. When such people are attacking and arresting political dissenters, you cannot speak about democracy and civil liberties in Russia”. 

And this is correct. Almost. The only details Mr. Kasparov has confused were the time and the place. The situation described above has not happened in Moscow – it has evolved in the capital of one of the European Council member states, namely – Estonia, where the public had gone to the streets to protest against dismantling by the authorities of the monument erected to honor the soldiers perished in the fierce combats against fascist Germany. 

That protesting marches have witnessed everything – tear gas, water cannons, stunning grenades, attacking dogs, firing of rubber bullets at the point-blank, and finally – a murder to top it all. 

A fortnight prior to those happenings in Moscow city authorities in fact banned arrangement of the opposition parade and the police in a quite rude and incompetent manner repelled a less numbered unsanctioned demonstration (which is true, but talking about the tear gas is a downright lie). In my opinion that choice of the authorities was wrong – they should not have gone that far – if that was a case, Mr. Kasparov would have strolled the streets and boulevards almost all alone. But I would emphasize that the only thing the ban covered was the procession, while the meeting of the opposition had been allowed and finally arranged in the central part of the city without any “repressive measures” implemented.   

Leaders of Estonian antifascists, inclusive of the under age schoolboy Mark Siryk, are still being held in prison, while Garry Kasparov has not been even put under arrest: after execution of the detention record at the police precinct he was taken to the court that fined the chess-player for the sum of about 20 Sterling Pounds. Indeed a “tough” penalty for a professional revolutionary, provoking to mass riots and calling to the violent power overthrow. 

That overthrow, apparently, stands for the very essence of activities conducted by organization seeing Mr. Kasparov as one of its leaders. The organizations calls itself the Other Russia. This name has nothing to do with the title of the sensational The Others movie by Alejandro Amenabar with the starring role played by Nicole Kidman. Although the actions of a group of people considering themselves as politicians, have very much in common with the film’s plot: the protagonists also thought of themselves as living creatures – the humans – yet resulted to be only the phantoms. 

The term of the Other Russia has been made up by one of the leaders of that organization – Eduard Limonov – the founder of the National Bolshevik Party (NBP). It is fascinating, he stepped forward with the concept of the Other Russia long before political emergence of Mr. Putin, back in the epoch of Eltsin, opposing that “different” Russia to the new and democratic one. 

The name of “Bolsheviks” has been used by the radical Russian socialists in the beginning of the last century. In October 1917 with the aid of street confrontations they succeeded in the capture of power in Russia, following which triumph they continued for decades annihilating Russian nation and wiping out its culture. The title of Limonov’s party could be translated as national-socialist or fascist. The views and credos of those people mean a motley blend of nationalism and communism: robust skinheads stage the demonstrations waving the slogans like “Long live Stalin! Long live GULAG! Long live Russian empire!”, and their liveries deal with imaginary interpretation based over Adolf Hitler party’s banner motifs (with the only difference, as they have replaced the swastika with black-colored hammer and sickle placed inside a white circle against red background).

he NBP has actively supported the war in Chechnya, and Mr. Limonov called to put to concentration camps those journalists, who wrote the truth about the campaign (the late Anna Politkovskaya was one of them). Mr. Limonov has had his personal experience doing the term in jail for a few years. But he was not convicted for fighting the “Putin police state”; he was imprisoned for the proven charge of setting up an armed gang created to accomplish the task of capturing the power in the neighboring country. According to Mr. Limonov, the Other Russia means an empire to which former republics of the USSR and the countries of the Eastern Europe shall be incorporated by force. 

Nowadays the fascist Limonov stands in the same line with a liberal romanticist Kasparov. But this fairy-tale centaur would have never galloped Moscow streets, hadn’t it been for the rider pretending to put on the role of the opposition leader and candidacy to the post of Russian President. It is all about Mikhail Kasyanov – another “oppositionist”, who for the entire life with good faith and fidelity, has served hand and foot to the state. At first, in Eltsin’s times he was proving his loyalty to the authorities at the charge of the Minister of Finance, and later on, after Putin had been elected the President, in the chair of the Prime Minister. 

While at the office Mr. Kasyanov has earned a queer nickname of Mickey-the-two-percent. People say that sobriquet has been associated with the margin of “compulsory payoffs” in regards to all the import contracts and transactions effected with Russia’s external debt. As on today, Mr. Kasyanov, who has not gained a day-long business experience, travels all over Russia and abroad exclusively by private aircrafts, surrounded by the escort of numerous bodyguards. Only this procurement position has reached much more than one million US dollars in the last three years. Different people previously standing close to a very modest Government official presently acquire the most expensive realty objects left available in London City.

Today the liberal-populists, fascists and state oligarchs have united for the sake to overthrow Putin. From the political viewpoint that audience has no support. This group can have a success and cope with the task only in a violent fashion, through making of provocations and telling cock-and-bull stories to reporters of the western newspapers. I hope they would never come to power. I intend to inform the Government of Her Majesty the Queen aforehand that provided a new ruling regime of the Other Russia has been forcedly established in Russia, I would be compelled to ask for political asylum in Great Britain. 

Taking into consideration the fact that the Other Russia is extensively supported by Boris Berezovsky, living in London under the patronage of the authorities of the United Kingdom, I believe I have solid grounds and valid reasons to do so. At the same time, the gentleman just mentioned above would enjoy the chance to freely leave England – I assure you that kind of a castle move would be in the best interests of the British subjects.
