В 2014 году, когда Россия начала войну в Украине, Денис Бахолдин участвовал во всех антивоенных акциях в Москве. Его задерживали за участие в протестных акциях более 10 раз. Самой известной его акцией стал перформанс «Путин – военный преступник» на день рождения президента РФ 7 октября 2014 года.

«Мы должны остановить войну. Если вы думаете, что это вас не касается, вы ошибаетесь», призывал он.

В октябре того же года Денис Бахолдин переехал в Украину.

«В РФ пока делать нечего, сейчас главное победить здесь, если выгоним путинистов с Донбасса и из Крыма, это будет конец диктатуры в России, или сильно уменьшит ее влияние, сейчас всё решается здесь, поэтому и надо быть тут…» (из электронного письма, изъятого следствием)

В марте 2017 года Денис, надеясь навестить мать, оказался на территории Российской Федерации, был задержан и избит. 10 марта 2017 года ему было предъявлено обвинение в участии в экстремистских организациях, запрещенных судом. Следствие подключило свидетелей из числа заключенных, которые «опознали» Дениса. Он обвиняется в участии в «Правом секторе» и боевых действиях на территории Украины.

То есть Дениса судят за действия на территории другого государства, которые законами данного государства не запрещены.

По данной статье 282.2, ч.2 УК РФ российские суды уже вынесли ряд заочных приговоров в отношении людей, находящихся на территории Украины. Те же следователи, которые вели дело Дениса, сейчас расследуют дело гражданина Украины Александра Шумкова, которому предъявлено то же обвинение. Та же статья инкриминируется гражданину Украины Роману Терновскому, который сидит сейчас в Лефортово. Если не добиться международной огласки, посадки по этой статье, которая подразумевает до 6 лет заключения, продолжатся.

В ближайшее время дело Дениса Бахолдина начнет рассматривать по существу Нагатинский районный суд г. Москвы.

Денис заслуживает солидарности всех думающих людей, которые не согласны с российской военной агрессией в Украине и других странах.

Denis Bakholdin, 36, was a Moscow economist and a bank employee and one of the activist of the opposition movement. Right after the Russian invasion against Ukraine, Bakholdin began participating in anti-war protests in Moscow and was arrested for this for more than 10 times. His most known action was his sole political performance “Putin is a war criminal”, which took place near the Kremlin on 7 October 2014, Putin’s birthday.

«We have to stop the war. If you think it’s not your concern, you are mistaken”, Bakholdin urged.

In October 2014, Denis Bakholdin has emigrated to Ukraine.

“There is nothing to do in Russia now, the main objective is to win here. If we will drive Putin’s supporters out of Donbas and the Crimea, that will put the end to dictatorship in Russia or at least reduce its influence greatly. Now everything is being decided here, so one has to be here…” (quote from his email, which is included in his criminal case).
In March 2017, Denis, while attempting to visit his mother in Moscow was arrested by the Russian border guards. It is known that right after the arrest Bakholdin was tortured by FSB officers.

On March 10, 2017, he was officially charged with “participation in an extremist organization”, particularly, the Ukrainian political organization The Right Sector; he is also accused of taking part in military operations in the Donbas on the Ukrainian side. The main witnesses in the case are two prison inmates, who “recognized” Bakholdin. If found guilty, Denis could be sentenced to a labour camp term from two to six years (article 282.2 of the Russian Criminal Code).

It is important to mention that all accusations against Bakholdin deal with his actions on the territory of another country, where they are perfectly legal. Nevertheless, using the same article, Russian courts have already sentenced in absentia several people who reside in Ukraine. There are also several Ukrainian citizens who are currently in Russian jails, who are charged with the same offense.

While in jail, Denis Bakholdin was subjected to brutal treatment and was even forced to hold the “dry” hunger strike.

The nearest weeks Denis Bakholdin’s case is going to be heard in Moscow. There is no doubt that unless the case will get international attention, Denis will get a harsh sentence. Denis deserved solidarity of all people who are against the Russian military aggression against Ukraine and other countries.
