Work and breastfeeding One of
3vibes@lj is
Married ...with Children. She had the following work-related experience with breastfeeding:
3vibes@lj went back to work 6 weeks after giving birth. It was a very favorable arrangement for her - working part-time, mostly from home. She had to show up at project meetings once in while. Overtime her infant grew up a little so it was not cruel to leave it with the babysitter for few hours. But when she was little
3vibes@lj was bringing her along and breastfeeding at the meetings as necessary.
All it takes is a loose shirt, you slip the baby underneath and not many people will even notice. This issue with breastfeeding in public is completely artificial. There is no issue as such.
Her work included a lot of time on the phone with the clients. So she sat in front of computer with the speaker-phone on. The infant was in a back room. If the mother heard the hungry squeaking she was taking a minute break, walking to the back room, adjusting the baby to the source of satisfaction and returning back to work.
One of her clients, a simple man of Mexican origin, asked her once: - Are you breastfeeding your baby?
She had a great temptation to answer: - Yes, as we speak, José.
Once there was a very heated discussion on the phone – about payments. So she couldn’t take a few minute break to change the baby. Her husband came home from work and observed the following scene: the baby is on the floor being changed, a dirty diaper in the view, and the speaker-phone talking about the money matters. And
3vibes@lj saying back: “Sure thing” or “We should get back to you on this” while fastening a fresh diaper on baby’s waist.
Good the videoconferencing is not as common yet.
