I am entertaining the following idea: the top Trump administration came to an agreement with the CIA, FBI and their NGO offshoots: most of the shadowy structures will retain their financial streams, and most of the officers and bureaucrats will remain in their seats, in exchange for cleaning up the Antifa mess and restoring law and order inside the country.
Yet this 180-degree turnaround requires a powerful pretext, so that an illusion of public consent is maintained.
Otherwise, how to stop blaring BLM/DIE propaganda and hunting the white nationalists one day and start chasing the lefties the next morning?
And so the pretext was created in the most in-your-face! way.
Much like Yevno Azef, with his Okhrana handlers, created pretexts for the Russian secret police to get extraordinary financing and rapid career advances, just before the full-scale revolution ruined this cosy arrangement.
I have no doubt that Tyler Robinson played a certain role, or rather several important roles, in the plot. However, there are all the reasons to discard him as a shooter.
