In a country in which lynching is still a living memory, the charge of "racism" or "hate" carries considerable moral weight. People who genuinely are haters or racists--David Duke, for example--are properly regarded as beyond the pale of respectable political opinion. For too long those on the political left have gotten away with falsely labeling as "racists" or "haters" anyone who disagrees with them on affirmative action, welfare or a host of other policy matters.
