там много анализа и не такого мелкого, как у michaeltotten.

У michaeltotten'а нет анализа (в этой статье). Он передаёт слова некоторого человека, и передаёт их скрупулёзно. Надо различать репортаж и аналитику.

Who is Michael Totten? (I mean, his insights do not seem too deep.)

He is a journalist, in a way. (He works as someone else, but I did not quite get as who.) He often goes to places like Iraq and Lebanon and blogs from there. His strength is not in "insights", we do not need yet another analyst, but in interviews and raw facts, represented with as little bias as possible. (He has a bias like we all do, but his output is straightforward.) I have been following him steadily for several years now. Not surprised he would go to Georgia now that it became a hot region.

Есть только проблема с "экспертом":

похоже автор репортажа это понимает. Вы случайно не заметили предложение, следующее сразу же после приведенного Вами:)

Я, по правде сказать, как только увидел то, что вставил в коментарии, так сразу и вставил, только потом стал читать дальше. Виноват. Поторопился, конечно.

А то предложение, которые Вы указали и вовсе блестящее. Там даже не знаешь какой оборот смешнее.

Michael Totten совсем не дурак и понимает разницу между собственным мнением и словами другого человека. Мне важно, что он доносит без искажений (насколько я могу судить) слова этого другого человека. Кроме того, из предыдущего чтения у меня сложилось впечатление, что он старается, по возможности, не ограничиваться одной стороной в конфликте. Я надеюсь, что и тут он поступит так же.
