Dershowitz has always been an adamant Israel supporter. I don't know why they should mention him defending OJ in the same line.
There is a big difference between an attorney defending a client in court and defending a cause he believes in.

Maybe they thought OJ references would shine some brighter light on A.D. and give him better coverage. I do not think this is a winning approach.
