Very interesting; I knew only one of these examples. However, Crivelli's painting is clearly different; it does not continue your series. Well, I hope you find something interesting about the cucumbers in Fergusson. I long gave up on them. This is one of the most difficult vegetables to deal with. Sometimes it is purity of Christ. Sometimes it is "rapid but short-lived growth" (Freud) Sometimes it is "symbol of the preservation of life because of its ability to retain water." Sometimes it is a phallic symbol. Apparently, nobody knows exactly what cucumbers are supposed to symbolize.
