reutoff online 15. It looks like in the last few years the industrial scene in Russia has emerged immensely, with lots of new & interesting projects like Reutoff, Cyclotimia, Cisfinitum, Bardoseneticube, Sal Solaris, etc. How would you explain this sudden expansion? And do you think there is a specific reason why today's most interesting industrial music comes from Russia? Thank you for the kind words about russian industrial scene, there is a real rise of russian industrial now and we see the international interest to Reutoff and to other bands from Russia. The explanation is simple for us. Russia is the motherland of industrial music, the spiritual motherland. Of course, russian futuristic movement was one of the most strong and creative in the world, and exactly the futurism is one of the sources of the industrial culture. But it is the formal reason, the true cause is that russian life is "industrial" in a sense. Most of the things which is usual for industrial culture as the themes of its works of art are naked here, they are not beyond the veil of visible prosperity of the western countries. It is not because of poverty or cold climate or something rational, it is metaphysical: The decay of this world could be felt very sharply here, the innermost decay which could not be stopped by any human efforts. Apocalypse is near, the industrial culture is the apocalypse culture and all true industrial artists are the heralds of the imminent end. We couldn't call "industrial" many artists which are widely considered as such, their music could be called "experimental" and sometimes it's a good music, but it's not industrial in a true sense of that term. On the other hand, we could call industrial anything which is formally doesn't fit to that musical category, but has the same feel. For us T.a.t.u. is more industrial than Einsturzende Neubauten (BTW, these girls are another example of the russian industrial breakthrough :) |
