SAL SOLARIS "Der Ruf" CD
(Der Angriff)
Sal Solaris is the longtime running project of Rostov-based musician Constantin Mezer, known for the audience after their appearance in the program of the first "Heilige Feuer" festival, which took place in St.-Petersbourg, in December 2000. Speaking about the albums, there was a CD released by Hau Ruck label, as well as a pair of domestic vinyls. However, in this five-years timespan, Sal Solaris was active with many compilation appearances, so this CD seems to be again the compilations tracks compiled. Some of these tracks belongs to the field of rarities, like the "Holy Mother Russia" (retrospective compilation of russian underground released by Steinklang) or "Eternal Soul" box. Well, looking at the wonderful cover photo taken by Ivan Napreenko (who joined the band recently), we can assume that "The Calling" is hailed from somewhere in Altai mountains. Indeed, many tracks can be considered as contemplative, longing mantras for the otherworld. They are not so dark and morbid as you can imagine from the crosspath of industrial culture - composed from the echoes of that bleak melodies and spacious passages, they reflects the silence in very harmonic noise-ambient following. Often strained and depressive, the music has very static and monolithic emotional edge, and it's pretty homogenous, despite the different way the tracks are from. Quite surprising are the bonus-tracks: the techno-remixes of original material, the raw exception of overall impression.
