SL: Tell us your opinion about the malaise in the music-business nowadays. Is there any good proposal or solution for artists to survive in the near future?

CRD: Yes, today we experience a paradigm shift in the music business. There's no clear solution of course. But I know that it can never be a good thing to make it illegal to share files, you have to solve the problem in another way and offer a product that people will be willing to pay for. One of the biggest problems is that the people that make up the laws are old and don't understand the Internet and its possibilities, they only focus on the negative aspects. Still, going to a concert is something you can't download and that experience is the essence of what music is really about.

CRD: Cat Rapes Dog was never a full-time job for any of us. I guess we had an option to make it a full-time job back in the early 90's, but I never wanted that. It's hard work being an artist and you never know when you'll get money and how much. I prefer it to stay a hobby. Annelie still designs and makes clothes, but she also has a day job as an administrator. I'm a research scientist within the field of chemistry.

SL: For the die-hard fans, Cat Rapes Dog stands for aggressive electro with a punk mentality. Is this still the case or did the band evolve to a more general rock band?

CRD: We did evolve into something like a general rock band, as evidenced by the "People As Prey" album. Although it contains some of our best songs, I was never completely happy with that direction. Now, we have sort of moved back to the roots while at the same time being contemporary. The electronica scene of the 00's, with bands like Le Tigre, CSS and Ladytron, feels very refreshing and is pretty much what we would sound like if we had started now. So, yes, the next album will be electro punk.
