Намедни купила маленькую синюю книжицу с Гермесом на обложке. The Joy of Life, An Anthology of lyrics drawn chiefly from the works of living poets, by E.V.Lukas (1927)

Очень много неизвестных имён, составитель в послесловии считает своим долгом отметить, что he does not "pretend that these pages contain, as a whole, the best modern poetry that I (he) could find; but they contain the best modern poetry that I (he) could find with bearing upon my (his) theme: the joy of life. English poets since war have more often been grave than gay, sardonic than serene..."
Листаю, соглашаясь с составителем. Даже Эмили Дикинсон и Роберт Луис Стивенсон меркнут в массе light verses.
На странице 267, пустой и предшествующей "Sources and acknowlegments" - мелким разборчивым почерком, карандашом:

На стр.276 две трети листа, не занятого библиографией, исписаны карандашным черновиком того же стихотворения, та же и дата.
Свободные от алфавитного указателя три четверти последней страницы и три стороны заднего форзаца были сплошь исчерканы карандашными записями, кое-где уточненными чёрными чернилами впоследствии, однако все они старательно, хотя и не слишком успешно, стёрты, возможно, следующим владельцем.
На переднем форзаце всего две записи: слева - 1028301 LAC* Morris W. теми же выцветшими чёрными чернилами, что и поправки к стёртому тексту, cправа карандашом - Hock.
