Jan. 11th, 2008 05:40 pm Don Knuth turned 70 yesterday. Meanwhile....

due to an urgent boss request, I was pasting text from LaTeX files into an Excel spreadshieet. That is, removing all macros and line breaks (!), and, you know...

Who was that genius designer in the Evil Empire who didn't see a need to able to edit text entries in tables?

Evil Empire designs for typical office workers, not scientists :)

Btw, in my recent paper all tables were created in Apple Numbers and then included in LaTeX files as PDFs. This allows saving a lot of space without much cybersex.

to say "designs" gives them too much honour :)
E.g. why cannot one edit text entries in excel tables, without having to replace the whole entry?
