I suddenly realized that the description of the 'underground worm with a snake like head' perfectly fits a caecilian. There are plenty of them in South America. Perhaps this is some kind of folk biology; pondering on the physiology of sex based on S.A. fauna. The idea of separate penises can be generated by observation of love darts of tropical snails or the rituals of banana slugs. Some nudibranchs actually HAVE autonomous penises that they shoot at their females.
