It is important for the nation and for the person – to be able to laugh at and to have a distance to himself. Jokes determine consciousness. Nothing highlights the characteristics of nations such clearly as humor ,nothing tells us more about the soul of a nation than its humor.

Almost every nation has its favorite, easily recognizable subject and style of jokes. England – stingy Scots , France - Marseille and Belgians on an international level, Germany - Ostis, Bulgaria – Gabrovo, Poland - Soltys (the mayor ) of Wachock village. Village like any other , soltys like any other - but the numerous jokes about him point out and ridicule the characteristic vices of Polish people.

Worldwide known Russian jokes (about Chapayev and Shtirlitz – among them ) confirm that also the Russian nation’s spirit lives, the cheerfulness is not dead, the brilliant sense of humor still exists.
