the sinking ship
The WebEx User Conference has expired with a whimper today, in response to a peaceful demonstration by Michael Zeleny against the company that covers up for degenerate daughter rapist Min Zhu. Michael has enjoyed seeing this discount Goliath back out with his tail tucked. Some leftover props from his picket remain in his possession. The line forms at the left for these genuine memorabilia of the next dot.com implosion.
Popular media remain under the cone of silence. Michael will not go gently into that good night. What do you expect to happen once his action reaches the tipping point of popular attention?
Michael had words with several WebEx employees. The rank and file were curious and supportive. They furtively sought Michael’s leaflets and shared tales of white collar crime. The security detail was sheepish. They stuck to his tail like dingleberries, their name badges reversed, taking pictures and whispering into walkie-talkies. The bolder among them volunteered opinions. Michael might have been threatened in the names of WebEx and Min Zhu by their competitors. By the same token, O.J. Simpson might really be looking for Nicole’s killer on those golf courses. Surely Michael is mixing up personal issues with business. By the same token, he was not the first to interbreed these pursuits. As the troops retreated, Michael saw an important character kvetching to the cop assigned to keep the peace at the Westin St. Francis. He asked his victim to confirm being Bill Heil, Min Zhu’s replacement as WebEx President. The sorrowful executive acknowledged his identity and asked Michael for his name. Michael played along by introducing himself. Then he told Heil that this issue would end only by WebEx talking to him. An act of contrition is in order. Michael expects nothing of the sort, but it is gratifying to think that every step along the way will leave his adversaries with retrospective misgivings over not having cried uncle sooner.
The hotel looked to have at least 1/3 of its nearly 1,195 rooms taken by conference attendees. The conference fee was a little shy of $600. That makes for a quarter million dollar loss on the WebEx balance sheet. For starters.

Better that than an anonymous coward.

I for one don't think you're a freak. I do think you've directed your energies outward, away from yourself. You've concluded you can't change yourself to find happiness, so you've put yourself on a quest to change the world, or some corner of it. You feel quite sure doing so will alleviate your own suffering, but it's pretty clear it won't.

Once you've ended this current quest and you find you're still the same person you were at the beginning, you'll direct these same energies again, but to some other unfortunate innocent, and you'll be off again chasing the unreachable.

Just remember, Michael, you can at any time decide to simply stop and look inward. All the skills needed to end all your suffering are already inside you. There's nothing outside. I wish you peace and good fortune.

In my dealings with Asian cultures, I have identified a curious difference in responding to misfortune. A Japanese man confounded by adversity will begin by asking himself what he might have done wrong (http://wikipedia.lotsofinformation.com/wiki/index.php/Harakiri). A Chinese man in the same predicament will direct his energies towards finding the enemies whom he believes to have wronged him (http://www.wavsite.com/sounds/591/wanda52.wav).

Your affectation of equanimity goes a long way towards disguising the self-loathing concentrated in imputing innocence to a serial sexual terrorist. Do you imagine that threatening your child with death in order to have your way with her is an innocent expression of misfortune? What about trying to repeat the same stunt with a grown man? Is withdrawing into therapeutic navel-gazing preferable to standing up to menace and prevailing against it? Which of these responses is more likely to leave its maker a better man, and his world a better place?

For everyone to be aware - the reason the User Conference was cancelled was because this nut brought a gun to the event! :(

Thank you for reporting the party line from your gracious employers (http://www.webex.com/). No doubt, they will also maintain that Min Zhu’s subsequent departure from WebEx, and its ensuing floundering as a tech company without a CTO (http://www.webex.com/webex/webex-management.html) had nothing to do with my outing him () as a violent incestuous paedophile. Here’s hoping that his loaded gun is properly accommodated by the Chinese gun control (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=160714).
